Double bike trailer or a rear seat and a single bike trailer?

I need to transport my two dds by bike for the school and preschool run. Having dropped ds1 at school, I have to drop dd2 off at preschool then get about with dd3 on the bike.

Just wondering if a double trailer would be alright with just one child in or if I would be better with a child seat on the back for dd2 and then leave the single bike trailer at preschool with dd1?

dd1 is 3 and about 17kg and dd2 is 20months (not quite sure how heavy but around 14kg).

I would go with thedouble trailer as much more sociable and safer for the children. We have a double, but there is also a strap arrangement which allows for one child to be strapped in the middle of the trailer to make sure it balances okay.

How much cycling do you do with DD3 in the day? as that would be the main influencing factor for me.

A chap at our nursery drops his two DDs off with a bike that has a front 'cabin' that they both sit in (facing each other). It looks groovy and much safer and weatherproof than the trailers. I asked him if it was difficult to ride and he said not particularly once you get used to the balance. I don't have a link, but it is probably dutch or scandinavian in origin.

Its probably a kangaroo or bellabike. Lovely but many many pounds (around 2000).

Thanks Lionstar, I would love that type of bike but as azazello says a bit out of our price range.

I have been given a bike so have saved there so am saving up to get one of the hard bottomed trailers as will be using it daily.

Do you find that your dcs argue/fight when they are in the double azazella? Worried about them being behind me knocking lumps out of each other!

I am planning to use the trailer to take dd3 once a week to supermarket (about 10min ride)and a friends house (about 5 min ride) then daily on the 5 min ride home from dd2's nursery. The rest of the time they would be in it together.

Mine haven't fought so far but are pretty tiny (DD nearly 3 and Ds 6mo). DD has also been in the trailer with her 5yo cousin again without fighting but it might all change when DS is bigger. You can hear surprisingly well though while they're in the trailer - I can hear every moment of DD deciding she needs a drink/ dummy/ cuddle etc so can take action when needed.

That doesnt sound too bad then. Which one do you have? I am thinking of the Burley cub but would love to hear about any other good trailers.

We have the ridgeback one, partly because DH has the ridgeback bike and I got the lot together. I think the Burley is the one he wanted though!

Do you like it? Worried that the Burley will not be worth the money. I am using it to make the school walk quicker as we only have one car and DH usually has it at work.

Thought the hard base would be easier to clean, more waterproof as we will be doing it come rain or shine! Also thought that it would be easier to get the two of them in and out if it was hard based.

Was hoping to use it as the buggy too but need to get them both in one to see if it is easy to handle and push any distance.

I like it a lot as a bike trailer, I don't like using it as a pushchair which we tend to do a fair bit. The front wheel is fixed so very difficult to change direction which is a bit irritating. We also can't get it through the front door, but that isn't as big an issue.
