Coddy, call me dense, but if it's child proof, how will the 5 year old use it?!!

DS got a relatively inexpensive Sony CD/cassette for Christmas and hasn't broken it yet. He's just turned 5. He's not a destructive child but I'm pleasantly surprised it's lasting so well. Not sure about the model but it's blue. Maybe they're tougher than we give them credit for. I bought a Sony cos I hoped it might be more robust than Dixons' cheapest, and cos ds kept borrowing our good one which I didn't want broken.

Toys R Us do one their own brand cassette player and CD Player. We have the cassette one which was only £9.99 and seems very robust. I think the CD player was between £20 and £30.

DS2 has an Alba personal CD player which has stood the test of time being battered, dropped etc by a clumsy 6 year old (£30 from Argos). It isn't intended as a children's one but seems to be doing ok so far.

I would have thought that the sort where you push the CD in through a slot rather than one with a lid or tray would be best suited for a 5yo.

Mind you, DS2 (2) shoved a £1 in our Kenwood one, DH then shoved a 2nd CD in when he thought it was empty as the one already in there wouldn't eject due to the £1. I dismantled it and successfully removed the £1 and CDs and it's been fine so clearly fairly robust

I think there are some designed for joggers/sports which are supposed to be better for jiggling. I'm also pretty sure I've seen a "child" one at toysrus, but I don't remember the make.

Cant find one at Toys r s - do you lot think the ELC one looks ok?
