Virating bouncing chairs- do they work?

My first son needed constant rocking to get him to go to sleep and to stay asleep, I could go on forever about it but needless to say this very nearly drove me mad. This time around I'm prepared for the worst. Do the vibrating bouncers soothe babies to sleep or do I need to splash out on a swing thing?

I bought a vibrating bouncer from Mothercare (£39.99 - ouch!) and my DD was terrified whenevr we put it on ! She hated it right up until she was about 4.5 months. I think she felt a bit 'exposed' in it, despite the headhugger. So for me they didn't work, but I was fortunate enough to have a baby that settled into sleep quite easily anyway... HTH

Why don't you wait until baby is born... he/she may never need to be rocked to sleep (which I presume you would find easier!) - all babies are different
2nd time around babies are generally easier to settle as you will be a different mum

i agree with P ( again)
you will be suprised how much easier it is.

Bought cheap one from Mothercare (c.£14.99) with vibrating, bouncing, music, light & toys. At first baby (now 3 mos) did not like it as it was too upright but now it works a treat. I do have to start by sitting next to her and bouncing it but it soothes her off quite well if she's ready for a sleep. She can also watch telly from it which she seems to love! I bought a swing chair thing from a posh jumble sale for only £10 and no success with that so far but my nearly 8 yr old son loves it (at £10 I don't care).

Our dd loved hers ( present from dh's work colleagues) vibrating with music/lights/toy arch) Once she was big enough to be in it she loved it - did not need the vibration on all the time. SHe loved the music and the toys to play with. In fact she still recognises the tunes when she hears them elsewhere.

If you really wanted to have something I would suggest a chair rather than a swing - quite expensive if they do not like it.
