Child Friendly Paint - Anyone know any

Hi, I've bought a second hand swing crib for bump and it could really do with a coat of paint. I'm keen to buy child friendly but haven't got a clue what is child friendly, what I should be looking out for and where to buy. I've just tried my local homebase and to put it politely - that was a waste of time! Everyone there just looked at me blankly.

What you need is water-based gloss. Homebase do sell it (or at least they did) but it might be marketed as "environmentally friendly" "low odour" or just "water based" rather than "child friendly".

I haven't been in a UK DIY shop for ages but last time I was there you could only buy this stuff in white. I guess you could get some paint tint though, or paint the crib in acrylic and then varnish with water-based varnish. Perhaps that's atking things a bit far though.

Speaking of which, if you can't find this stuff then just use ordinary art-acrylic (also water-based and theredore non-toxic). That would be the more expensive option, but two tubes should do it.

I would contact a paint manufacturer like Dulux

Check online for organic paints. I just used a normal gloss as I painted it and left it in the garage for a month before using. ALso with a crib they are not up to biting the rails!!

Focus stock a range of paints by Craig & Rose branded "Crayola" which includes toy and furniture paint in numerous colours. It's a "child friendly" waterbased acrylic paint.

They also have fantastic glitter glazes, colour changing heat sensitive paints and glow in the dark amongst other stuff...

Guys - thanks. I've tried the Dulux link where they have a FAQ titled "what can i paint my baby's cot" however although they say they don't use the various nasties in the home range - they wont rule out cross contamination and therefore don't conform to the BSS. I'm going to try homebase and white is fine for me but I might try the interesting sounding effects in my daughter's room.

Thanks
