I have decided I want Dh to buy me one of thesefor my birthday. But I need to know a couple of things. Is it just instead of a blender, or can you use it instead of a food processor? Can I make things like hummous in it? Is it strong? Can it cope with really thick mixes?

I have one, and love it, but it can't do all the things that a food processor will do. It doesn't chop things, for example (although you may be able to buy some attachments to do that ).

Great for cakes, bread, meringues, batters, etc.
Don't know about hummous - dh makes that with a hand blender.

Very strong, imo. I've had mine for about 10 years and it is going strong.

It seems that there are so many attachments available for it (at an extra cost) which is one of the things I like about it.

When I sent my dh a link to it and said I wanted it for my birthday, he said "and how many year's birthdays is it for???"

i lurrrrrrrrve mine!

it isn't really instead of a blender or food processor though- it doesn't have blades.

it's a mixer. I use mine mainly for cakes and bread.
good for meringue too with the whisk

am pretty sure there isn't a blender attachment.
if you want an all-singing one then you need a kenwood chef tbh! you can get blender attachment for that and all manner of other things. far more than kitchen aid do
nowhere near as cool though

You'll want to put this on your Christmas list maybe?

IlanaK · 26/02/2010 20:51

I have a Kenwood Chef. We were given it when we got married in 1996! I almost never use it. I don't like how it looks so I have it put away in a cupboard. And it is a faff to clean.

When I cook, I like to use one big bowl, chuck everything in, and mix. I use a hand blender generally, but have killed two already as they are just not up to the job.

I mostly made cakes and biscuits. I do however use the small pot attachment to my hand blender to chop olives and sundried tomatoes to add to my breads in my breadmaker.

I love mine but only use it for cakes and pastry really and whisking things like meringue and cream. No good for things like hummus as there are no blades but it is strong and will cope with thick mixes. Not a faff to clean either - just the bowl and attachment.

Hmmmm.....I wonder if you can get blades for it?

no, you can't get blades for the mixer itself
