Childproof/childrens laptop with Internet connection?

Is there such a thing?
My four year old DS loves childrens websites like Cbeebies, but he isn't the most patient person and can be quite rough with our laptop (which is now broken)
i'd love to be able to get him his own laptop. I've looked at normal childrens laptops but they all look a bit, well, crap really.

I came to the same conclusion-kids ones were a waste of money-i upgraded mine and gave DD(4) my old one-was only solution that seemed sensible....

Well there's obviously a gap in the market....

Have seen an external "lower case" keyboard and while I know that part of the appeal of a laptop is not having to have lots of wires, would it make any sense to just plug in a USB keyboard and mouse (together costing under 10 quid, most likely) and if those get bashed a bit, no harm done to the laptop itself.

Sorry, just a dumb idea, perhaps, but personally I always plug in because it gives a bit more flexibility for positioning the laptop and keeps the laptop out of harms way from my cup of coffee / can of lemonade IYSWIM

Wish we'd thought of that before we let our then 3 year old on our Macbook Pro
it's a very good idea, if laptop ever gets fixed then we shall definitely be doing that

i was going to suggest a desktop - maybe an all inclusive one like an imac. my laptop has been ruined by the dc so we plan on getting a desktop for all of us to use and then dh and i can use our laptops.

What about a netbook with a solid state disk instead of a traditional hard disk? They're more robust than standard laptops, and cheaper. I managed to drop ours out of the car and it survived, although I wouldn't recommend being that rough with them.

My ds uses a netbook and hasn't broken it yet! He's not too heavy handed though.

It has NetNanny software installed and so far this has been great for stopping him looking at anything he shouldn't. Most recently asked for an adult to put in the pin code when he was studying rainforests at school and put 'Brazilian" into Google.
