Pain in the Aria to move?

I really like the look of this mams and papas buggy. It seems to tick all the boxes, but Kath4kids on here said that it was awful to manuavere. Has anyone else found this, or is it a case of getting used to? Hoping DP might have some overtime cash to fund said buggy!

Funky bargain Britax version here, RRP is £89.99, but for sale here for £51.99 !!!

Or the Chicco one for £61.99 instead of £69.99 on the other link

TBH, I think I prefer the Britax, but you would have to buy a footmuff for it, as it's not inc in the price.

Flossam · 16/07/2005 22:38

Thanks NdP, the pram shop was useless today, lots of poncey old fashioned style girls prams, but not many strollers, certainly not the one I wanted anyway. Will maybe go elsewhere tomorrow. I do like the look of the chicco one, more so than the britax, actually! But then, you are a veritable pram expert and I have just one so far that I got very very wrong! Makes me wonder why you prefer the Britax?

I think Britax are generally better made than the Chicco ones. IMO, the Britax looks sturdier and I think it looks a bit more funky, too (just my opinion tho).

Flossam · 17/07/2005 16:19

Thanks NdP, I think I have managed to get Dp involved now by quoting some of the cheaper prices! We will have to wait and see if he gets good overtime this month - fingers crossed!

Excellent....

Mojomummy · 17/07/2005 19:23

Hi, I've got an Aria which we took on hols this year. We found it great for manoevrability & although it has zips, we did unzip then half way down for a less reclined position...not sure if you're supposed to do this.

Anyway, handy little pushchair & DD loves to grab the bumper bar & look out & climb in herself & close the bar - she is just 2.

I thought the seat was nice & padded ? we used a sheepskin on ours as well though. Agree the hold is on the small side, but in the summer remove it & use a sunshade.

What age baby/toddler is it for ?

kath4kids · 17/07/2005 19:59

The new arias have a toggle system on the back so makes them multi position.

We bought the quinny zapp before we went on hols this year. Abssolutly brill, doesnt lie back but both 2 yr old and 15 month old comfortable in it. Hood makes pretty good sun shield, and it's the smallest folding pushchair around.

Not cheap but everyone argued about who was pushing the aria and who was pushing the quinny.

lol at the amount of pushchairs just worked it out and with singles and doubles in 29 months i have had 10 pushchairs lol a bit of an addiction problem i think. just trying to work out how many i had for eldest two. bought and sold one before dd was born. dont think i ought to work it out coz i might be depressed at how much money we have spent over the last 13 years

vickiyumyum · 17/07/2005 20:22

hee hee, my favourite subject buggiess!!!

i have had the ari in the newish toggle multi position back and found it to be too clumsy too push, found the whhels got snagged on wonky pavements etc that my bigger wheeled strollers didn't. the footmuff is too long for the aria as it drags on the floor.

i have to sya though that the pulse is a fantastic buggy, as good as, if not better than the maclaren techno but much cheaper at £90.

i have now had 2 of the quinny zappa, the firat one i brought and sold immediatley as i hate dit, but ke[pt seeing them around town and thought that mabe i hadn't given it enough of a go! so brought another one and used it for one weekend realised that it was still a horrible buggy. no recline, no pocket for raincover, seemed to have a mind of its own. if i left it for a second it would have rolled to the other side of the room even on a flat surface.

i would say that for a toddler an umbrella fold buggy is the way to go, if you choose one that coem with a hood and raincover you can't really go wrong.

what age child is it that you are looking for a buggy for?

vickiyumyum · 17/07/2005 20:23

oops just realise how sad i sound, but i have had at least 12 buggies in 3 years!

vickiyumyum · 17/07/2005 20:24

plus 3 prams

Mojomummy · 17/07/2005 21:07

....I've had 9......

I'd say the pliko was/is the best..in fact thiking of selling the aria if anyone is interested

kath4kids · 17/07/2005 21:24

definatly a draw back with the quinny, no basket and if you put a bag on the back and its a bit too heavy it will tip up. But we stuck everything in the aria prob making it even more difficult to push lol. Thing is now after reading this thread i find myself thinking should i look at the pulse, but i think dh wuld kill me

vickiyumyum · 17/07/2005 21:30

kath4kids go on buy it your dh will love it!!!

Flossam · 18/07/2005 09:30

DS is 8.5 months. So not a toddler yet. But with my current pushchair I can't get on and off buses alone, nor can I fit a parasol onto the chunky sides. It's easily foldable but weighs a ton so I can't fold it alone to get on and off buses either. it is truely awful.

OP posts:
Mojomummy · 18/07/2005 09:50

I've only been on a bus once with a pram...the bus had a lowering method so we were able to get on ok - presume most buses don't do this ? We were on a park & ride bus at the time.

I think I'd go for a pliko - I think the leg rest is very important...lots of experience with buggies, just not with buses !

Flossam · 18/07/2005 10:06

I can't fit through the seats with my pram - it's too wide!!!

OP posts:
kath4kids · 18/07/2005 13:58

He definatly will not love it. He hates pushchairs especially any new ones that i buy. So better not

kath4kids · 18/07/2005 13:59

You will be able to fit through the seats with an aria but i guess you also should be able to with most umbrella pushchairs. Hope that helps

vickiyumyum · 19/07/2005 18:03

in hindsight i would go for the pulse as it is smaller and will last for longer, i found that i didn't use my pliko much after 2 1/2 because he was too tall for it, whereas the pulse i am still using now and hes 3 and a bit (although after our holiday hes going to go cold turkey as i'm going to sell it)

P.s if you decide on a pliko i do have a brand new p3 in peacecamp with sun canopy, footmuff, and changing bag for sale all unused that i brought on a whim and am now having to hide from dh!!! it cost me just over £330 so make me an offer cheeky i know!

Flossam · 19/07/2005 18:38

Thanks Vick! But I have my heart set on the chicco ponee now - driving DP mad. I have spent the last three days searching it out, but I still haven't met one in RL!!

Am just going to base it on the fact that its nice and affordable , has a lovely big basket, it's light, seems to be half the size of my current pram (I have the graco quattro tour travel system and it's awful!), will fold up and be free standing while waiting for buses, looks supportive for DS and should last us untill I maybe get one of the really light flimsy ones. Hope you can see my logic!

OP posts:
vickiyumyum · 19/07/2005 19:39

yes cause i can i know it was a bit naughty, but if you don't try!

do mothercare still sell the chicco ponee? they used to. they would have them in store to try out as well. or John Lewis or Toys r us?

Flossam · 19/07/2005 21:12

I think they are actually being fased out. Which means they are either reduced or no longer sold. Toys r us don't do them, boots don't now either. I have been relying on the Chicco website to tell me where they are stocked, there has been no mention of Mothercare, Toys R us or John Lewis. But have just seen another Chicco buggy at Mo/care so they must stock them and toys r us used to and...... Oh I don't know. Was checking mothercare when I checked in here, and will check JL now, thanks for that. (Am also watching one on ebay - brand new so may end up with one tonight )

OP posts:
Flossam · 19/07/2005 21:13

Fased, I knew that was spelt wrong, but couldn't work out why until I re read my post. Phased

vickiyumyum · 20/07/2005 08:10

good old ebay! if in doubt go to ebay thats what i say.

hope you get one soon.

Mojomummy · 20/07/2005 13:28

I'm sure I saw Chicco strollers in the BIG (metro?)Tescos. They're usually competively prized too.
