Tripp Trapp vs Baby Dan?

Am thinking of buying maybe 2 Tripp Trapp chairs - one for 3 year old who sits at the table but is currently far too low on normal chairs and makes a lot of mess and one for 9 month old.

They're very expensive, particularly with all the baby attachments necessary for the 9 month old. The Baby Dan looks cheaper, although I'm not sure if the cushions etc. are included in the price and whether it converts from a highchair to a normal seat like the Tripp Trapp?

Can anyone tell me more about the Baby Dan or recommend one over the other?

when our ds was small and pushing his feet against the table (we have a tripp trapp by the way), we just moved the chair/table so that he was against the wall if you see what I mean, so he actually couldn't tip backwards.

I don't think it's that easy to tip over a Tripp Trapp. Maybe on a carpeted floor, but our kitchen is tile, and although DS1 pushes away from the table often, he's never come close to tipping it. (I know other kids who use their Tripp Trapp as a sort of stepladder in the kitchen, pushing it over to the sink, climbing up the chair to get water, etc.)

DS1 is nearly four, and loves his Tripp Trapp. I gave him the option of giving it up when we had DS2, but he wasn't impressed. When DS1 has a friend over, they often both sit on the Tripp Trapp together, snuggled up.

The Baby dan can be tipped in just this way but it takes a bit of effort. We have the seat at such a height that he can't really get his legs from under the table (not quite cutting off his circulstion). Have also moved the table and chair so that the chair backs onto a wall.

I swear by Tripp Trapp. DS1 is 3 1/4 and loves it, we just move the footrest as he grows. DS2 is 15 months old and is VERY energetic, he manages to push the kitchen table away but the chair doesn't move. Can't imagine it tipping. It's great all sitting at the table together, really happy with them. Got mine from Kiddicare.com for £99 each. Definitely recommend them, look fab too.

gosh I must be a mean mother the thought of spending over £100 on a high chair fills me with horror, we got dd1 a travel high chair for £25 3 years ago and now dd2 is in it, its been brilliant although now looking a little dirty, I am about to buy another for her due to hygenen reasons and would love a nice trendy looking trip trap but quite honestly our travel one was the best £25 ever spent, it just shows you don't need to spend a fortune to get a good deal, are we all caught up in how things look these days? Never heard of a baby dan what are they like?

Have you thought about the Antonio (Mamas and Papas)? It is similar to the tripp trapp and baby dan but has a tray which can be removed when they get older. Just bought one for dd in the sale £65 with cushions.

I know £100 is a lot of money for a child's chair but it's not just a high chair, it lasts for the whole of childhood. Infact I often sit in it myself as it's really comfy! It's not all about aesthetics, it's good for your posture aswell. My boys use it for everything, eating, drawing, watching TV etc.

Am talking about the Tripp Trapp by the way ...

Thanks very much for all your advice. I think on balance I will go and get one (or two), although will have a quick look at the Mamas and Papas Antonio, as I hadn't heard of that one.

It's good to hear so many positive things about the Tripp Trapp, so hopefully it will be worth all that money.

I think in the scenario Dalesgirl was describing, nearly all chairs would have tipped over backwards. I have a very strong toddler and I find the tripp trapp really stable. But it is probably sensible to make sure that either the chair can slide away from the table or that it's situated somewhere that little legs can't push against something! I love my tripp trapp and wouldn't have anything else. It looks nice, too, which is unusual in the plastic world of kids' stuff!
