ikea antilop highchair - can toddlers escape?

The ikea antilop highchair looks great and so cheap! but can wriggly toddlers climb out? Also can it be tipped over if they kick against the table or is it quite stable?

Thank you

It's very stable. They can escape if you don't use a harness, but you can put a set of reins on it no problem

Is v stable.

You can get straps to fasten them in. My DD could stand up in hers if not strapped in.

the legs splay out and is very stable.

They are great. My ds has never escaped from it. dd managed to push it over with him in it once though!

MegBusset · 03/02/2010 20:20

DS1 still uses his (2.11) and hasn't fallen out yet!

It's got straps so even if you don't have the tray on they can't get out. And I found it really stable - the legs splay a bit so it's very secure. We switched to the antilop when ds started pushing up against the table in his tripp trapp, causing it to tip backwards - never had that problem with the antilop. Definite recommendation here!

They are great. The main danger is tripping over the legs (you) rather than tipping or escaping. Neither of my very wriggly boys escaped, though I think ds2 did stand up in his a few times (but I never really tied him in).

Quite stable but DD manages to get out of the lap belt and climb out, well not climb out but she straddles the side of the chair and sings see-saw

She is a climber though so I have given up on high chairs altogether and now she has her own small table and chairs and a chair that hooks on to the table for big mealtimes with a 5 point harness.

I agree that the legs are stable enough, but my DS can get to his feet from inside the harness, and, from standing, God knows what he might be able to do!

I agree with other posters, that a 5-point harness might well be the way to go!

I did try a harness-less chair (Ikea Agam ), but when he went through another fussy eating phase, it became a nightmare, so back he went into the Antilop.
