Cotbed duvet vs Single duvet?

My DS (23 months) is just moving from his cot into a junior bed and I have struggled to find any half decent cot bed duvet covers. Any ideas where does any decent ones or am I wasting my money and should I just buy a single bed duvet cover?

I looked and looked and couldn't find any that didn't cost the earth anyway so went for a single duvet in the end. Far more choice of cover too. I just put the duvet on width ways and tuck it down the side, it's just the right length then. hth

Just read again and actually at first I did use her cot duvet with a single cover on but then switched to a 4 tog single one when she was maybe 3?

DD (17mths) has just moved into her toddler bed and I too was looking for toddler bed duvet covers.
I found there wasnt much of a choice and what there was was rather expensive.

In the end I bought a 4.5 single duvet and just tuck some in at the end and along one side. Its almost like a sleeping bag with one side open.

There is sooooo much more choice of cover with a single and they are much much cheaper.
DD currently has a peppa pig cover that was reduced in Sainsburys.
I didnt really want garish charater bedding but its really helped with the transition as DD loves her "peppa bed".

Thanks, I think I might just go with a single duvet and that way I can get something that will hopefully encourage him to stay in the bed!

Hi, these are beautiful cot bed duvet covers, though not cheap but really fabulous. My boys had the safari in blue.

My youngest has a 4.5 tog cot bed duvet, but is using a single duvet 9 tog for winter as doesn't need this duvet for many months of the year I thought I'd have it for longer so went for a single size.

The cot bed duvet looks a lot better, but I just fold the single duvet over twice when I make the bed (so it doesn't look a complete disaster) and lay it across him widthways when he's in bed.

As the cot bed duvet has done both my boys I definitely feel I have had my money's worth as my youngest is still in his cot bed (age 4 - almost 5) and may be still using this bed for some time yet.

Oh My God Sparky! £120 for a duvet cover? (faints)

SparkyToo · 17/01/2010 15:59

I didn't check the price, sorry. I don't think they were anything like those prices 6 years ago. Sorry, not very helpful!

I certainly wouldn't consider paying anything like those prices now, but was terribly precious about my boys when they were babies! On bedding I preferred the idea of them having new bedding rather than second hand (as a lot of what I used, clothes, car seats etc was second hand from my sisters).

Anyway I'm sure this is one big hole to try and dig myself out of, can't see myself doing it, whatever I say!!

stinkypinky · 17/01/2010 17:06

No need to apologise Sparky! No need to explain They do look very good quality.

I have single size covers on a cot bed quilt cos I am tight. DD will still love Peppa when she leaves home if I have anything to do with it.

Thanks all for the help. Good news I managed to get a junior sized duvet and covet set from John Lewis for 40! it's got cars and trains on so I think ds will love it!

I bought cot bed duvets (inners) from DUnelm mill. They were a good size and larger than some I'd seen which looked like they were a bit too small.

I bought a gorgeous cotton single duvet cover from Vertbaudet in a sale, with 2 x normal pillow cases. Then I cut down and re-sewed the single duvet to make it the right size for the inner.

But then I like to sew!

We used a cot duvet as a single was far far too big for DS. We got the divet from Ikea, and they also do reasonably priced 100% cotton duvet cover and pillow case sets.
I also got one handmade by a lady on Ebay - look up handmade items and ask around. It was really cheap and I was very pleased, as was DS with the Postman Pat design.
