How easy is it to fix an Isofix car seat yourself?

We're getting a new car in Feb, which comes with the correct fixing for Isofix seats. Is it easy/ safe to fix Isofix seats yourself, or do we need to go to a specialist car seat fitter? Thanks

The car already has the fixings?

If so then it is extremely easy, that is the joy of isofix seats.

Dead easy, that's the wonderful thing about Isofix. There are little metal bars at the back of the seats, you just have to snap the seat onto the bars. There will be instructions!

As long as you buy a seat compatible with your car (check the manufacturers lists) then it is pretty easy to fit yourself. Generally the seats/bases have push-fit latches that attach to the fixing in the car. There is usually some kind of red/green indicator to show it is attached properly. The only issue is they can be a bit stiff to remove. The seats/bases are also on the heavy side.

Thanks everyone - we'll take the plunge and fit it ourselves (or rather DH will fit it ).

Depends on the car, ime. I've used our Isofix seats in 5 cars with Isofix fixings now - 2 are really easy, 1 is OK, 2 are near impossible (dh can do it with brute force, I can't).

If you're not taking them out and chopping and changing between cars much it won't be a problem though.
