Anyone got one? Why are they better? Are they worth the extra money?

don't know what they are

Bloody marvellous in my opinion. You fill the tank, switch it on and then it generates a constant steam while you iron.
I have found it to be a huge improvement than my old Tefal!

Fantastic inventions

I held out for ages as I doubted their worth but finally a huge amount of ironing encouraged me to give it a go. I bought mine from Argos and I reckoned that if by the end of the pile I wasnt happy I would just take it back.
I kept it . Nuff said

Do you still use an ironing board? or do you steam the clothes while hanging?

Still use an ironing board for regular t-shirts/trousers/etc and you can steam jackets or more delicate stuff on a hanger.

Loved mine but dropped it and it died. Had to go back to a regular iron and realised how much I missed my steam generator. My mum gave me some money for christmas so I have ordered a new one. Can't wait for it arrive- how sad am I?

don't iron much so find mine a faff - hard water area means the descaling pack gets used up very very quickly, so have to remove it between sessions or it starts leaving great dirty streaks on clothes. Don't really get how to use it, white elephant in my house. Need someone to show me what to do with it. prefer the old iron that I plug in and go - steam generator needs to be filled up and emptied and granules removed and don't get that much better results - altho this is doubtless due to how I use it.

I'm on my third !first one was one of the first morphy richards ones bought in about 1996 @ Ideal home exh - It lasted for about 8 years and the next one a tefal was much better - the main reason being that you could keep refilling it while ironing and it had a removable water tank and a ceramic soleplate - this was easier to clean and the whole ironing experience was less of a faff. The tefal one lasted until last year and only died when my husband tripped over a wheelie bug and dropped it (don't ask)- I borrowed a friends normal iron which she thinks is a good one - I ironed for half an hour and went to Currys at 8.30 at night and came home with a new Steam Generator one - it's a Tefal again and it's great - It has a light which tells you when to descale (prob about once every 3-4 months) and you just plug a hose attachment into the bottom of the tank and run clean water through so its very easy to do. I would not be without one - I hate ironing and its the only thing which makes it bearable. You should get a mesh type ironing board as well though as the extra steam leaves the board fairly wet and I'm not sure why but the iron seems to work better with it
