Do you rate them? Are they worth the money? What do you cook in yours?

I do i do!

I do all sorts in mine.
Today i cooked a huge ham in cocacola.....MMMMMMMMMmmmmm delish.

Yesterday we did a curry.
I do pork chops, chicken drummers, soups, jacket spuds (go a bit yellow but are really nice anyway) Youc an roast a whole chicken in there.
Meat and chicken just fals to bits and its really brill if you work.
I make some thing in it the night before, then put it on in the morning, go to work and when i come home the house is filled with delish smells and tea is ready.

Only thing you cant relaly do is pasta. Potatoe in stews is lovely.

Some people brown meat before putting it in, i tend to sling it in raw, its always properly cooked and we have never been ill.

You then just sling it in the dishwasher or leave it to soak and its done.

easy, useful and the best thing i have in my kitchen. Ive had it for years as well, it was given to me so i have got my moneys worth! Defo.

Cats pee in them by all accounts...

blametheparents · 30/12/2009 14:24

I am thinking of gettting one too.
Feel fairly certain that my cat won't pee in it

Cicatrice · 30/12/2009 14:27

sumburntats - How do you do jacket potatoes in your slow cooker? How long does it take? Do you put a skewer through them?

waitingforgodot · 30/12/2009 14:28

NoBiggy, have you been hitting the brandy?!

sunburntats · 30/12/2009 14:29

No no burn bits, you need plenty of liquid in them,(not cat pee, defo NOT cat pee though) they have the 2 settings low and high, i pretty much sling stuff in in the morning, and put it on low all day.

Dont think about it again till tea time either. No need to stir or check on it.

I have picked up som good slow cooker recipe books as well over the years, so do stuff out of those as well.
Honestly, its a brill bit of kitchen kit.

If you menu plan ( i do) you can pretty much sort the weeks meals out in advance. You save a fecking fortune on your shopping bill and it is so labour free it really helps me as i work ful time, have a child, house to run blah blah blah...

sunburntats · 30/12/2009 14:31

I wrap um in tin foil, put them on high for about 3 hours. Stick a fork in them and pile them in.
The potato middle is a bit yellow but they taste lovely.

waitingforgodot · 30/12/2009 14:44

sunburntats · 30/12/2009 14:49

I love my slow cooker. I do start things off before I put them in though. But it's sooo easy. And you can't beat the slow cooked casserole plus fresh bread (from a bread mix as I'm too idle busy to faff around with flour and yeast and the like) from the breadmaker combo...

simpson · 30/12/2009 14:57

spag bol is lovely

Is starting to smell rather nice.

Has large onion, a carrot, a celery stick, garlic, mince, beef stock, can of chopped toms, splash of red wine and teaspoon of sugar.

As well as the mince obv.

sunburntats · 30/12/2009 15:01

mmm I have been trying different combinations for my sag bol, used passata in the last one instead of tin of toms (didt have any) and a splash of wooster sauce, twas lush.

sorry for spelling, have had wine.

simpson · 30/12/2009 15:06

at having had wine

Worcester sauce sounds nice.

Wonders whether to chuck a slug in now...

NoBiggy · 30/12/2009 17:27

jellyjelly may be passing this one on
