Balance bike advice

MWestie · 20/12/2009 23:18

We've been looking at balance bikes for DS 2.6 and like the look of the Likeabike Jumper and the Islabikes Rothan. He's got quite short legs though - up to his nappy was only about 29cm - does anyone know if either of these would be any good?

The bike websites do say min 35 and 30cm for each - so just wondered if anyone has a similarly short-legged DC with either of these!

Thanks in advance.

I would give Isalabikes a ring. DD is on her second Islabike and they are fab. Whenever we have called them they have been able to give loads of advice.

Thanks, will see if they can advise.

Hi.
I don't know the measurements but ds2 (who has very very short legs) started on his puky learner bike when he was 2.4.
It was fine.

Islabikes great. DS got v short legs and we went for the Rothan as only one low enough. It goes v low, is v light and fab

Hmmm, I did think of the Puky too as liked the footrest. Looking at them all again though I think we might go for the Rothan after all, has consistently had such good reviews. Many thanks for your replies.

Good choice. He will love it!

We are on our second islabike - very helpful staff would recommend

rothan great for short legged boys!

ShePeeTeePee · 22/12/2009 14:33

I've found both companies to be good to deal with and really high quality products. Rothan is a lot cheaper though - especially if you prefer the metal bikes over the wooden ones anyway. (I found the Puky although well-made, heavy and bulky to carry by comparison). Be prepared that you will be taking up running in the new year! I think DS was using a wooden Like-a-bike from 2.5 at it's lowest setting - and he's pretty little compared to his peers.

Yes, am slightly daunted at how I'll manage to keep up with him, or not...!

We went for the Rothan as it seemed to have the lowest seat out of all that we looked at, plus it came really highly recommended. It is brilliant, and DS is now whizzing around on the next sized Islabike.

The rothan is brilliant - we bought it for DS1 when he was two and he's loved it (and he's short - it is the best one for the littler ones I think). DS1 is now getting a pedal bike from santa (also from islabikes), he's so excited. He has gone on rides over 3 miles on his balance bike already and when riding beside DH (who has a bike computer) was going 11 km/hr, they are wonderfully efficient machines!
