My dd has been doing it with support since she was 4. She loves it, and the whole family can play.

Iklboo · 07/12/2009 12:26

I can do it mum 2 is also out. DS has been paying it since he was 3. I think there's a Junior Brain Academy out now too. Check out Amazon for honest reviews

My DS is 4 and loves anything Mario related especially MarioKart.

bodiddly · 07/12/2009 12:35

my 3 year old can play lego star wars and lego batman. He also likes mariokart, mario party 8, cooking mama and has a go at Imagine teachers

NotsoDH · 07/12/2009 12:39

Personally I think 5 is too young for a video game console. Every child is different but I would think they would struggle with the controls. DS is 6 and I have to help him with my Nintendo DS Lite.

I would recommend as a better option getting a Wii for the family. Using the remote is easier than the DS Lite's stylus and buttons.

Lapsedrunner · 07/12/2009 12:41

None imo.
Club Penguin is online

bodiddly · 07/12/2009 12:54

My DD i fine with the DSlite. We don't let her have access to it all the time. We just get it out occasionally..

ihearttc · 07/12/2009 16:03

My DS is nearly 5 and has:-
Sam Power Firefighter and Sam Power Policeman-they are both fantastic and DS can do them easily. You basically complete missions and get to customise police car/fire engine.

I did it mum-also really good

Lego Star Wars-impulse buy cause thought he'd never be able to do it but its quite easy!

We've got him Mariokart and Carnival one for christmas which are also supposed to be quite good for younger ones.

DS is actually really good on the DS-a lot of the games he plays you have to concentrate and use your coordination which can only be a good thing. He will only get it out a couple of times a week for about 45 mins a time. Everything is ok in moderation isn't it!!

I was wondering about Nintendogs as well cause Im sure he'd love that!

bodiddly · 07/12/2009 19:22

thanks everyone .. there is an offer on in argos for 2 for £30 so have to choose 2 from their list. I am tempted by lego star wars just got to decide on the other one!

Cripes.
I am a luddite.
DS same age and has not got one. Had to dance to moloko dressed as batman to entertain him.
Is he missing out?

bodiddly · 07/12/2009 19:31

Nah I don't really think they need anything like this at this age ... ds is only getting one because my dp is keen and because I got such a good deal. He will only be using it for short periods of time! Am hoping it will be useful for all those days when he will have to come in to work with me during the holidays

OP posts:
nicefleece · 07/12/2009 19:35

Go on, dress up as batman and prance to moloko at work, they won't notice....

bodiddly · 07/12/2009 21:10

I think my underpants are best kept underneath my clothes so I will give the batman dressing up a miss .. thanks!

My 5 year old pinches his brother's ds and loves playing mario kart. It took him no time at all to pick up the controls....have to prise him off it though at times - very addictive unless mummy is watching over!

QueenThistle · 12/12/2009 03:45

Rayman Raving Rabbids 2
is super fun and easy at the beginner level. This game of mine has been a huge hit with the kids.

Peppa Pig: The Game is also loved by my DD. Superb collection of mini games, including tossing of pancakes

You could also try a Pokemon game. Relatively easy and great fun.

ihatethecold · 12/12/2009 10:47

why oh why would you give a 5 year old a computer game ?

way too young imo
sorry

Seona1973 · 12/12/2009 11:57

5 is plenty old enough for a nintendo. Ds has one and he is 3 - and can play some games by himself

ihatethecold · 12/12/2009 12:07

why though?
surely young kids should be playing, not eyes glued to a screen, numbing their brains!

bruffin · 12/12/2009 12:23

"surely young kids should be playing, not eyes glued to a screen, numbing their brains!"

They can do both you know

AnAngelWithin · 12/12/2009 12:23

i did it mum is good.

my ds is 5 and he is only allowed on it at weekends, and even then he is on a time limit! just like the older ones. everything in moderations!
