for domestic or other?

what sort of coffee do you want at the end?

latte, filter, expresso?

Ivykaty44 · 06/12/2009 13:09

expresso

this makes a good expresso

and if you don't use it often it doesn't make for an expensive cuboard

good coffee

excellent for a good cup of coffee

frother

milk frother for latte + the expresso

Ponymum · 06/12/2009 13:13

We have the Gaggia Cubika and love it. It's the real thing. It is easily as good as real barrista-made coffee, very well engineered, and looks brilliant on the work top. I was amazed to see that Currys are advertising it this week for £99 as we paid a lot more several years ago. I would jump at that.

PerArduaAdSolInvictus · 06/12/2009 13:17

Second for gaggia, but I also have a filter machine with a timer, so it wakes up 10 minutes before I do. Heavenliness...

Wouldn't bother with cafetiere/french press - v hard not to burn the oils in the coffee, and only about 2 minutes between weak and stewed. Yuk.

hewlettsdaughter · 06/12/2009 13:18

have a look here

we bought via this site and they were very efficient.

MollieO · 06/12/2009 13:22

Nespresso machines are lovely although you have to buy capsules (about 23p each). Makes fab coffee - espresso, latte, cappuccino.

MollieO · 06/12/2009 13:23

Should add that Gaggia UK has gone bankrupt.

ImSoNotTelling · 06/12/2009 13:26

We got the old version of this as a wedding present, it's nice as it grinds the beans up so the coffee always tastes fresh and it's quite exciting

PerArduaAdSolInvictus · 06/12/2009 13:28

I want a hand-crank now

MollieO · 06/12/2009 13:32

I've got this one. Have had it over six years now and it gets used every day.

Am a bit gobsmacked to see that JL sell a coffee machine that costs nearly £1400!!

MollieO · 06/12/2009 13:34

Make that £1,600 . Who on earth would spend that on a coffee machine?

PerArduaAdSolInvictus · 06/12/2009 13:49

Think the combination of plastic capsules and Nestle would rule that one out for me Mollie!

MollieO · 06/12/2009 14:16

They are metal and can be recycled.

Anifrangapani · 06/12/2009 14:17

My Dad..... best coffee maker ever.

PerArduaAdSolInvictus · 06/12/2009 14:24

All of it metal?

PerArduaAdSolInvictus · 06/12/2009 14:25

Just seems so wasteful...

HeinzSight · 06/12/2009 17:25

We grind our beans every morning and use a cafetiere, so want something that does similar

Just having a look at the Cuisinart now

costco hane got the delonghi bean to cup machine that even auto froths your milk for cappuccino, its around £600 i know they were retailing for over a grand in JL. its a good machine, but you can get a reasonable bean to cup machine for around £300.

if your going to get through 2 or 3 cups a day then its worth spending the money on a bean to cup machine, weve had one for 5 years, a very basic one. it does the job and has procuded on average 5 cups a day.

MollieO · 06/12/2009 18:48

Sorry PerAdua yes all of it metal. Of course doesn't get over the Nestle issue.

I like the sound of a bean to cup machine, preferably operated by the lovely man at our local station coffee shop .

thrifty · 06/12/2009 19:02

i think it depends on how much coffee you drink. the pod machines are great for 1 or 2 cups a day, but then it starts to get epensive. in the long run over a couple of years, a bean to cup machine pays for itself in the cost per cup over a pod machine. you can buy a really nice espresso blend of beans online for as little as £5 a kilo which is less than 5p a cup.

SCargot · 06/12/2009 19:05

a cafetiere

SparkyToo · 06/12/2009 19:57

My sister has one of those Nespresso's and really says it is the best coffee maker she has ever had. I've had a few coffees from it and they are really good!

MilaMae · 06/12/2009 22:02

We have the Gaggia Classic-fantastic!

selby · 06/12/2009 23:28

Another vote for the Gaggia Classic - we have one of these and it is used daily. DH is a real coffee snob. We bought one a few years ago in the HoF Jan Sale so hold off for a few weeks.
