Some consumer people have been doing lab testing of car seats again - I know the AA were involved, not sure who else. I find it shocking how much some seats differ in their safety. There were about 50-60 tested. This is the link if you ant to see how your seats did:

Can't remember how to do proper link so you coud jsut copy and paste it into your address abr - sorry!

Forgot to add, I am feeling quite pleased as my seat did well. We have the Britax Romer DUo - It's an ISOFIX seat so I did think it would but it is nice to see it in writing.

My MIL has just bought the Bebe Confort Iseos for her car too and that did fine.

Thanks for the link - at least the one we're getting (Graco Autobaby) is ok.

Is there anyway to find out if the seat will fit your car without trying it? We live in Cornwall and there's hardly any big shops round here, especially not baby shops that stock Graco stuff so it's impossible for me to try out the seat first. Just got to order it on the net and hope for the best!!

wobblymum - Halfords will apparently help you with fitting - I'm sure there's one of those in Truro - you could always go there for advice even if you don't buy one from there

oops - stuttery button....

The Britax site has a 'fit finder' and you put in your car and it will tell you which Britax seat will fit it best.

For some reason my pc won't let me view this address, can someone tell how the Britax First Class got on please ? Thanks

wobblymum · 05/06/2003 16:09

Thanks Janeway, I'll try there.

I tried the Britax site but it said you had to register and for some reason I couldn't properly, but I wasn't planning on a Britax seat anyway so that's not too much of an issue!!

Just had a look

Don't know how to feel really. Our car seat is rated "poor", but then so is every other group 1 + car seat I remember seeing available in Spain (Britax etc aren't available.)

wickedstepmother, the Britax first class isn't listed, but all the other Britax seats proper (not the booster seats) were satisfactory. Only about 2 seats were "good" in all categories anyway.

wickedstepmother · 06/06/2003 09:19

Oh great, thanks Lucy.

Claireandrich · 06/06/2003 11:37

Lucy123 - the news on BBc yesterday said that if your seat was classified "poor" not to worry too much as it did meet the requirements and was still much safer than just using an adult seat belt.

I do know how you feel though. When Dd was younger we had the Maxi Cosi Citi and last year it failed the tests done by Mothercare. We stopped using it and borrowed a friends, wrote to Maxi Cosi, went to a car seat safety session at halfords. We were told by everyonbe else that our seat was normally voted one of the best and to use it as it was better than the one we had borrowed. Interestingly Mothercare didn't come out too well in this test yet they did fab n their own???
