Tell me about it....
How much?
What's it made from?
What does it look like?

Marks and spencer anoraks for us. One bought in the sale and the other off ebay for £4. They wash brilliantly and I don't have to worry about them.

MadameCastafiore · 18/11/2009 10:20

DS has this one from John Lewis (He also has a Boden puffa but the JL one has a removable fleece so is very warm)

DD has this one from Monsoon (she also has a very long thick GAP water proof mac)

O am very much of the school of thought that you should dress kids in navy, black or grey school coats - I hate hate hate bright flashy school coats - think they look untidy and cheap.

amazonianwoman · 18/11/2009 10:23

John Lewis pink toggle coat

Nice and warm, long enough to keep uniform dry, cost about £28, washes and dries easily, bright enough so I can spot her coming out of school We're on our second one!

amazonianwoman · 18/11/2009 10:26

Oh, we seem to have a bright, flashy, untidy, cheap one She's 5, she has the rest of her life to wear black/grey (and those colours don't suit her)

WouldYouCouldYouWithaGoat · 18/11/2009 10:32

dd's school sells a nice warm waterproof jacket with teh logo on it. dd refuses to wear it, other than that it is perfect

AMumInScotland · 18/11/2009 10:43

DS currently has a 2-in-one fleece and waterproof combo jacket, in navy. The school dress code said black, but we picked up a navy one in the summer, so tough! And anyway, it turns out they wear all sorts of coats, so navy is relatively conservative

Disenchanted3 · 18/11/2009 10:44

DS has this, but has a waterproof one for riny dats

memoo · 18/11/2009 10:46

One bought direct from the school. Navy blue with school logo on. Waterproof and fleece lined, comes down to their knees and all at a bargin price of £15.

School buy them and sell them at cost.

sweetkitty · 18/11/2009 10:49

Same here, nice wine school jacket, waterproof on one side, fleece on the other, school logo on it too, most of the DC at the school have them.

Good thing is it's dries in a few hours as well

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/11/2009 10:52

DS has Boden anorak thing in khaki - excellent and not too hot for when they rush around with their mates.

DD had to have a plain black winter coat, to wear over the blazer and longer than the blazer, but with no logos. That was a challenge, but good old John Lewis came up trumps. It is a nice very classic dull as ditchwater wool type coat

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/11/2009 11:11

sorry got attacked by my kitten and pressed to many
----s!!

eandh · 18/11/2009 11:13

like the others who have school logo's coats bright red with reflector strips - waterproof one side/fleece otherside, much warmer than her normal winter coat and dries fairly quickly only downside is 270 children in the infants all wear the same coat so spotting your child can be a bit difficult (they also have school logo winter hat!)

posieparker · 18/11/2009 11:31

Would you buy a woolen one if it was made to measure by hand for around £35-£50?

OP posts:
WouldYouCouldYouWithaGoat · 18/11/2009 11:34

posie - no i wouldn't pay that for a school coat.

notagrannyyet · 18/11/2009 11:35

13 year old wears school waterproof with logo. It has white on pockets and arms so it stands out in the dark. Very important as we live in a rural area and roads are not well lit. Mine are travelling (on foot, then scholl bus) both ways in the dark now. The older 2 don't 'do' coats but they do have one. They are multi coloured and I don't care if they look untidy. Being seen in the dark is what counts.

amazonianwoman · 18/11/2009 11:36

Good price and wool would be lovely but it would have to be dark so you couldn't see the dirt - I'm guessing wool has to be dry cleaned?

Clayhead · 18/11/2009 11:37

No I wouldn't but I always want waterproof and windproof so it wouldn't fit the bill for those reasons.

nikki1978 · 18/11/2009 11:42

DD has this one in Navy. Is not too expensive, very warm and waterproof. Does the job I think.

memoo · 18/11/2009 12:32

Posie, I wouldn't buy a woolen one for school because want something that is waterproof. Price is ok though.

mysteryfairy · 18/11/2009 17:15

My DD is another one guilty of going to school in a bright flashy school coats that looks untidy and cheap.

She can be seen in hers on winter evenings and can find it in the cloakroom in two seconds flat.

It is this but in bright pink:
oilily coat on ebay

It was not cheap but she may well look bright, flashy and untidy.

She is 7 and I hope she has many years when she can wear sober, but tidy and expensive coats. She has a Jigsaw coat for best, again not cheap, but it is purple with a fur trim so may well have committed a faux pas there too.

StillCounting · 18/11/2009 17:35

Mine has this:

www.littlecherubsclothing.co.uk/popdetail.php?pid=3493&s=girls

I bought it for £40 but it's been reduced even further now.

She wears a school uniform so coat has to be navy blue, dark grey or black.

This coat is a very dark navy blue (unfortunately) almost black, but it is warm, waterproof and LONG. Her uniform includes a pinafore dress and we walk to school so need a coat that is at least knee-length (they are very difficult to find as they all seem to be waist or hip length.)

It's not my favourite (would prefer classic wool tbh) but as I often find dd at the end of the school day sitting on the playground tarmac with her friends sharing out biscuits and/or marbles, then I'm quite happy it is fully washable ...

roisin · 18/11/2009 17:41

I always bought the boys' school coats in M&S - usually in February in the sale. Usually paid about £20 for them. Great quality, washed well, were 100% waterproof and windproof and often had reflective stripes or similar on. We do a lot of walking as a family, so we want a quality coat that is good for school and walking.

Now, at secondary, they have a uniform coat.

I wouldn't want a wool coat: not practical. I got drenched walking to work this morning, but my coat dried very quickly. A woollen coat would still be sodden at hometime.

StillCounting · 18/11/2009 17:42

btw I always buy HUGE so they last 2 years ...

posieparker · 18/11/2009 18:34

Okay, thanks. Just wondering what everyone wears.....
