Toddler Tables & Chairs

I have a 20 month old DS who's only been walking a month, but will now sit on a mini chair at nursery. I'm tempted to get him a little table and chair to use at home for activities, or even for eating at, as he's often a bit stroppy about being confined to the high chair these days.

Is it worth it first of all? Or should I hold off until he can sit on a normal chair? I think that might be some way off, to be fair.

Also, we have another DC due in December, so am happy to view it as an investment that can be used again.

Oh, and i've seen a good cheap set in Ikea but can't quite face the Ikea run at nearly 8 months pregnant, so can anyone recommend anywhere else to get a good value set?

Thanks very much

We started out with a cheap and cheerful set from Wilkinsons (similar to this but rainbow coloured), worked well with DD and wiped down quite well. But being a snob, it was a little too colourful and didn't fit in well with the colour scheme in any room. We do now have a cheap Ikea set that comes with 2 chairs and have found it just as handy, but looks a little more grown-up and will prob last longer.

Definitely worth it, how about this

Thanks everyone - some stockists here i hadn't even thought of such as Babies R Us and Wilkinson. I think my fave is that Argos one though - thank you naomi - i think it will fit best into our decor!

  • and it's a bargain too.

Don't direct me to anything from the GLTC though! - i have only recently discovered that particular catalogue, and am having to step away from it. I'm currently wanting the play table with big storage drawers underneath but it's something staggering like £150. Looks fab though, and durable, probably well worth it if you had that kind of cash kicking around

DS got a mini Ikea table last Christmas and he's had so much use out of it. It's the perfect height for colouring, playdough etc and when we make cakes last week, I brought it into the kitchen to put the bowls on. And he has eaten at it once or twice when he hasn't wanted to go into his highchair.

He rarely sits on the little chairs, but that table is one of the best things he was ever given.

I have got the mini ikea stuff and it is lovely. Can you send someone to get it instead of yourself?

My 19 month old and 3 year old really like that stuff.

We've got one from ELC (just searched and they don't do the exact one any more - it's pink and wooden, with matching chairs, but isn't the one with a blackboard in the middle) which my parents got for the DT's for Christmas in 2007 (they were 17 months at the time) It's usually in the playroom, but comes through to the kitchen sometimes for doing cooking. I reckon it gets used every day - playdoh, colouring, drawing, sometimes eating. It's been a brilliant thing to have and they show no sign of growing out of it. Definitley worth it.
