ultrasun is good but not sure if it is cheaper

Furball · 11/06/2005 20:35

Trouble with P20 is it's only UVB protection whereas Ultrasun is UVA/UVB. We do use Ultrasun and you can get it in Waitrose, otherwise their mail order service is really good. Piz buin has just bought out their range of all day sun lotion factor 30 which is also UVA/UVB and is on 2 for 1 at Boots and I bought some in Sainsburys today for £5.99 just to see what its all about. Unfortunately we are are family of really fair skin so I have to be on me toes when it comes to this sort of thing.

If that's for 200ml that's a good price, YG. See? - "Only" £18.50.

Thing is with P20, when you put it on it stays on and you don't have to reapply nearly as often as the others. It says once a day although I'm not sure...but you don't get that nasty pink/white look you get with lots of them.

Janh - It still does not protect from UVA sunlight only UVB, it is UVA that causes skin cancers and you have no protection whatsoever.

having just been to portugal i brought some of the p20 stuff and some piz biun stuff, the p20 stuff is a clear gel but it stinks , it not good for asthma sufferers, the piz stuff is ok we used that on the kids and it has to be put on 20 mins before sun exposure, boots had it on BOGOF they do a bag with a tube in it plus 4 sachets which are great for putting in your bag ect, personally i would get the piz biun stuff

Yeah but no but, Furball...!

Anti-skin cancer things have only been around 5 minutes, and I have no idea what was in the suncream my mum used to buy for me 50 years ago but I don't think UVA or B entered into it. (Not sure what did, in fact )

I went to a pharmacy in Geneva with prickly heat 15 years ago and they gave me P20 then, so as it's still around and growing in availability here I'm guessing it's a well-known pretty effective sunscreen in Europe.

Furball · 11/06/2005 21:10

Quite amusing to think when I was a child we were all smothered in 'sun tan oil factor 2' !!

Janh · 11/06/2005 21:21

DH used to use olive oil in his 20s "Frying tonight?"

Just found this on the P20 FAQ page:

I have to say I've never even tried to use it properly, as described - when I was given it in Geneva the instructions were all in foreign and I've never bothered since. I get hideous red lumpy prickly heat, it must be worth a try.

NannyJo · 11/06/2005 21:24

it was on offer in matalan buy one get one half price, not sure if it still is?

jlon · 25/05/2008 18:23

P20 allows through UVA which is now known to cause skin cancer.

So you don't burn but do increace your chances of cancer - because the UVB protection avoids the normal burn you may even stay out longer which will in turn increace you UVA exposure.

Doubly bad new.

P20 has bee n withdrawn from sale in several major pharmacy outlets in Ireland now because it does not meet the recommended min standard for a screen.

gaynor14 · 09/06/2013 20:39

P20 offers broad spectrum photostable UV protection covering both UVA and UVB rays and retains its effectiveness even after and during exposure to the sun. P20 is proven to work for up to 10 hours in the sun. this statement is from P20 web site
