gone for plain white .. silk finish .. boy you guys are fabulous .. I would have been kicking myself

Think that's a good move Twiglett, I've already got a new sink for my new kitchen, the only bit I've got so far - I've gone for white this time. Now I bet there will be loads of posts saying how hard white ones are to clean

Prettybird · 10/06/2005 16:44

Just a note for when you're cleaning it: DON'T use anything even slightly abrasive. Porbably the best thing is straight bleach.

The probelm is that the plastic (aclrculci) that the quartz is mixed with is much softer. So, if you rub at it with anything abrasive, the plastic wears away, leaving tittle "hills" of quarts. Then the dirt (tea, coffee...) accumulates and shows so much easier - even on white! ... which is when you then need the bleach!

is that for franke? or rok?

just so I know cos I thought the franke ones were supposed to be as tough as granite? or was I taken in by the blurb

Prettybird · 10/06/2005 16:53

They are as tough as granite - as they are 80% made from quartz. However, 20% is methyl methacrylate, the same stuff that Perspex is made from.

Astracast, Asterite, they are all variations of the same base material that Frnake, Rok etc then mould into their sinks.

thanks pb .. will bear that in mind
