What about Kooshies then?

Have been thinking about using Kooshies nappies (ultra)
At the risk of opening up a huge reusable nappy conversation...do they work? are they worth it?
I welcome your advice.

i have a couple of Kooshies in amongst all the other types of washables I have collected and they are OK if you use a booster pad with them. I think its worth researching it a bit more as I wouldn't recommend them as the only nappy that you have - the fit isnt great and nor is the absorbency.

Wehey - I've just been enbroiled in the reusable nappy threads trying to decide which to get (there is a thread called leaks in reusable nappies and also one called washable nappies part 3 in the other section for some reason).

Anyway I bought kooshies to use with DS. Used them for about 18 months and they were OK but I had terrible trouble getting them dry (and I even had a tumble dryer back then). Also problems with leaks although I never used liners or boosters or anything. Put me off a bit and when DD came along I used greener disposables.

However now expecting no3 and decided to go back to reusalbes but definitly not kooshies. There are far too many better ones on offer now. I think the terry ones dry better than flannalette. Totbots have been praised a lot and you can get them in bright colours too. Also motherease.

Because I have drying problems I'm planning to go for terries this time round (and you can get bright coloured ones of these now, or organic etc etc). They are the quickest to dry (you can even iron them dry) if desperate and will have loads of other uses if I wimp out. I'm going to experiment with a motherease air flow wrap and a totbots red fleece wrap (fleece is meant to keep bum dry) and use nappi nippers for folding but also try the fuzzibuns and nature baby stuffables. These sound great as you just fold the terry into a pad and insert it between fleece and liner. Then when washing it will dry like a normal terry.

Its a minefield trying to choose I know - best thing is to decide what is most important for you - for me its the drying issue. I have found that the site www.twinkleontheweb.co.uk seems to have the biggest range with the most sensible info about them. Best advice I've picked up from the other threads though is not to just go for one make - try different wraps and nappies for your first size and see which works best for you. Good Luck with choosing.

Heya, definately have to agree! I've been using Kushies Ultra Lite for a while now and I absolutely love them! I always used to feel so guilty leaving an extra bag of rubbish outside for the bin men... Now I feel like i'm helping the environment and have an extremely happy Charlie baby.

At the beginning I didn't pad the nappy up as much as I should have so got leakages which was nasty - went through so many clean clothes it almost drove me mad! Then I started padding the nappy up with the extra pads/(boosters?) you can buy with them which was brilliant. Sorted the problem fine.

I did hear that the previous makes of Kushies didn't dry so well as they were quite padded up - The designers seem to have taken this into account as I don't have that problem though cos the new nappies separate out for quicker drying.

The only thing possibly wrong with the Kushies (but was my fault really) is the velcro wore out quickly. But then I realised that i'd kept forgetting to fold over the straps before putting them in the wash so all the furry rubbish from the washing machine was getting stuck in it - clever clever clever me!

In my opinion though i'd give Kushies a good go! They really worked for me. I got mine from a site called Perfectly Happy People and before I bought the whole bunch got a tester pack which came with 2 nappies and a bunch of other stuff (quite reasonably priced) so if I didn't like them I hadn't spent too much money trying them out. Loads of councils have 'nappy librarys' now as well where you can try out the nappies and they'll explain everything you have to do with them - washing and stuff. (my friend works in one so I know all there is to know about them!) I think most even do a money back voucher for buying reusable cos of the worry of putting them in landfills.

Gosh I've rambled on!!

Hope this helped!
