We want to buy something uneccesary for my dd who is coming up 6 months. Everything we've bought recently is a "must have" (ie high chair etc) but as it's her christening coming soon we wanted to buy her something just for the sheer hell of it! We had thought about a one of those swing things but as she's quite big we don't think she'll get the use out of it now or one of those sit and ride things that we can either push along or when she gets a bit older she can pedle herself, but as we live in the county it's a bit impractical.

I know I can rely on you all for ideas!

How about a shetland pony!!

Only joking. What about a rocking horse. She's a bit young for it now but in a few months she'll be big enough and she'll get years of fun out of it.
OR
Rather than something she can play with now, how about a proper dolls house. One that you can buy things for through the years and when she's old old enough to play with it properly (when she's 21!) she can have it. It would be very special.

Sorry - I haven't been very helpful. I have a son who would be happy with a car, a book and a football!

A swing for the garden with a baby seat that can be switched later?
A nice wooden toy to play with later which will keep nicely (dolls house, noah's ark...)

Soupie - we've been spending to much time in the Yurt together...

Noahs Ark - that's a lovely idea for my ds.

dog/sheep etc on wheels? Mamas & Papas do a nice range of more expensive toys.
I always have to dress up when I shop in there - a bit posh - but nice!

a remote control duck from ELC. It is cute and quacks about. The controls are easy to use.

badjelly> are you named after Spike Milligan's witch? I loved that book when I was little, and always wanted a 'Fluffybum the cat'. Brilliant.

How about one of those nursery lights that go around and put pretty shadows on the wall. My dd is 7.5 mo. and she adores ours. And our ds who is 2.5 years still loves it too.

Bobbins, I don't know where it came from!!! DH just started to call it me one day - he reckons badjelly the witch used to be a cartoon on ITV in the '90s, never heard of it myself!!!

Thanks all - got some great idea's, might go for a small rocking horse or something similar.
