Bravado nursing bras

Last time round when I was breastfeeding I used Mothercare and M&S as I didn't like the feel or style of any bra suggested in John Lewis, such as Emma Jane. Plus as ALL my clothes are black I went were there were black nursing bras, not John Lewis then.

I've been looking around and seen the Bravado bra on line, and yeah they come in black.

Anyone here used them?

Yes, I had one. They are very comfortable but not very supportive, especially if you have a large chest! I used mine for sleeping in and when around the house. When I was out and about, I felt I needed some more support so had an Emma Jane bra from Blooming Marvellous.

I had a couple, and found them fine, but my chest wasn't enormous! I also like the grey Emma Jane bra with the moulded cups.

I'm currently a DD is that too big for the bravado??

I only used Bravado and they were great for me - but I agree they are only good if you are on the small side - I'm around 34B normally and didn't really get hugely bigger (around 36c-ish?)There was a previous thread on maternity bras you should be able to find which seemed to reach this consensus - lots of people complaining that bravado weren't supportive enough.

Tissy · 19/05/2003 14:24

not according to their website!

elliott · 19/05/2003 14:27

Tissy, good link - I don't remember the double plus size being available last time. I had a combination of S+ and M.

pie · 19/05/2003 14:28

Elliot, just found the thread, thanks, though whilst every one seems to agree that it doesn't provide much support for er..fuller bosoms, no one says what that is!!!

Oh well.

Maybe a should just move the Polynesian island of Yap and be bare chested. Apparantly is insulting to show your thighs there but everything else goes, sounds perfect!

I had the double plus size and it was supportive enough for me, but don't really know what size I went up to. The extra reinforcement at the side od the cup does make a difference, though.

So has anyone tried th plus and double plus which are supposed to provide more support, are the no support reviews based on the basic?

Sorry to ask so many questions, just really don't want to shell out on half a dozen bras that aren't up to the job.

Pie, I like the sound of Yap island. The sight of my thighs is certainly more than most people can cope with!

Tissy · 19/05/2003 14:42

half a dozen? I had 2 and one Emma jane...

The double plus was fine for me. Why not just get one and try it?

LucieB · 19/05/2003 14:54

Pie - I started off as a 34DD and was about F when my milk came in. Had a double plus size and didn't find it supportive enough for when I was out and about walking but fine for sleeping and mooching around the house....

I bought theBravado ones last time - as much as anything because they claimed to cater for a range of sizes, and I was a bit put off by being told when looking at feeding bras that I'd need to keep getting remeasured for them "every few week" as I would probably keep changing size. Didn't fancy splashing out all that dosh for only a few weeks, so the bravado ones seemed an economical compromise. Mind you I wear the "sports" type bras anyway, so I'm used to the style. I actually found the Active Birth Centre bras easier to cope with than the bravado ones, as although they're a fairly similar style they have a more conventional type fastening at the back, so they were less of a struggle to get on.

Pie, have to be honest and say that the plus size ones I have are comfortable enough but make your bustline look like an old bolster. Not so much lifting and separating as firmly compressing...without actually being that supportive. so you have this kind of leopardskin unabosom. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings.
M & S do quite a nice plain black cotton maternity bra which comes in generous sizes and is more supportive.

DebL · 19/05/2003 16:11

They are comfortable and I found them quite supportive (I was 36DD at the 'peak' but, they don't wash/wear well. My black bra is grey, and pink one pale pink now, and the wide band under the bust wrinkles - it needs ironing every time.

Others on here have recommended an Elle Mcpherson from Figleaves.com.

Thanks guys. I think after reading the responses I may get a Bravado for hanging the house in, and look for something with more support for when I'm out and about.
