SHEWEE ANYONE?

Rumpel · 04/08/2009 10:38

I was browsing and came across this:

www.shewee.com/

I am interested to hear if anyone has used one and what you all think?

I need a pee about every 5 mins and suffer from FFATPD (far from a toilet panic disorder ) Thought it would be great for the car just as a safety net - IYKWIM.

I'm sure someone on the camping topic has one. My concern is the rinse factor, you'd have to carry some water around with you to flush it through, that or have a lengthy shaking session, without flying piss droplets up into your eye.

You should see your GP and ask for a ref to a women's health physio if you really do need to pee every 5 mins.

Rumpel · 04/08/2009 10:43

It is mostly in my mind I have seen the HV and kept a fluid intake/outake chart - I used to drink 4-5 litres of water a day but have dramatically cut it down - it is just my head I need to 'fix'

ah but a women's health physio can help fix your head too

Seriously urge incontinence is very treatable, you don't just have to reduce your fluid intake.

flashharriet · 04/08/2009 10:51

That's really interesting slubber, I didn't even know there was such a thing as a women's health physio. Think I should make an appt!

Slubberdegullion · 04/08/2009 11:25

oh yes, they deal with all things obs & gynae. They lurk on post natal wards ready to pounce and instruct you in the Holy ways of the pelvic floor exercises. Lots of other stuff too, I dabbled mildy when I was a community physio. They are highly specialised and well worth seeing if you have problems down below

Rumpel · 04/08/2009 12:41

I have oft wondered if CBT would help. I am just an anxious bag of neurosis methinks how do they fix your head then?

Rumpel, I wee ALL the time.... when I was pg I was drinking 12litres a day, now got it down to about say 6 litres. Its a nuisance though!

Slubberdegullion · 04/08/2009 14:00

Rumpel, I'm no expert in the field but I think the bladder training they do with you is very similar to CBT. Part of it is to de-sensitise the feedback system in you bladder that is constantly telling you to go.

I was skim reading MN - and this thread was next to a 'baby name' thread. I thought you were proposing SHEWEE as a name

beanieb · 04/08/2009 14:06

I've used one for festivals but found peeing standing up very difficult, i don't think it's very easy for women to pee in that position so it just takes ages to get going.

Thandeka · 04/08/2009 14:11

I am going to buy one for the pupose of weeing into those tiny pots at my antenatal appointments- am hoping it will stop me getting wee all over my hands!

But back to the OP get thee to a womens health thingy as advised!

Hi Ladies

The Shewee are brilliant. Great for using in a car to go into a bottle (apparently make sure the bottle is at least 1 ltr big!). I know what you mean having to pee all the time. Not quite every 5mins- but feels like it!

I used mine once my daughter was born too and I was carrying her in the baby bjorn front pack thing. It meant I could wee standing up in a public toilet- without sitting down and putting her closer to the germs. I don't think I could squat whilst holding her. My legs are strong, but not that strong!

Also, you don't need to worry about rinsing it. Just one quick flick seems to make it dry for me and it's also great if there isn't any loo roll because you use to 'wipe'!

I also used mine for urine samples and it was very easy- specially at the end when my bump was soooo big!

I always have mine hanging around in my bag now....it's much cleaner that you think and nothing compared to the smelly nappy bags!!!

I hope this helps

Rumpel · 04/08/2009 18:12

Hmm thanks for your thoughts ladies.
I think my problem is my head makes my bladder think it needs to go - but it doesn't as I actually have a fantastic bladder than can hold over a litre! It is just my head that's f***d

Very long standing condition exacerberated by having kids and PTSD.

Thanks though.

Rumpel, I have similar to yuo.

Dh gets quite annoyed when I am having to stop in the car on the way anywhere. But you're right, it's almost subconcious worry when you might not be near a loo.

May consider a shewee too!!!

Rumpel · 05/08/2009 16:59

Thanks ladies - LITTLE - it is deeply embarrassing and I so wish I could just rid myself of these mad thoughts in my head. Is it just your bladder or do you get bowel neurosis too? My Mum said I have been the same since tiny - I was out of nappies at just over a year old and have always had a 'toilet' thing I find it really inhibits my life - eg walking anywhere, travelling etc. Just wish I could leave the house like a normal person and not have to go back and forth to the loo 600 times 'just in case'.

I have IBS so that kind of makes it awkward too

The one hting that helped me, ironically, was when I was prescribed beta blockers for anxiety due ot cancer checks/scare. Because they stoppped my anxiety, I managed all the scarey stuff wothout needing (or thinking I needed) the loo.
Which proved it is all in my head!!

I can laugh about it most of the time, but it does get stupid at other times ans then I get cross with myself.

Yurtgirl · 05/08/2009 18:07

I was investigating these on amazon recently - the general opinion seemed to be that the Whizz is better (different shape and soft rather than hard plastic)

Yurtgirl · 05/08/2009 18:11

here
I cant seem to find it on Amazon, thats a link to the whiz site - reviewers of shewee on amazon seem to prefer the whiz!

No personal experience by me I hasten to add!

lynniep · 05/08/2009 18:18

LOL - I love the fact that you can buy a 'gift set' for the Whiz. Not sure what my friends would say if I bought them one as a birthday gift
Might get one for myself though...

Rumpel · 05/08/2009 21:36

LITTLE - me too. I developed it after gastroenteritis about 13 years ago. I researched it after hypnotherapy, kinesiology, and loads of other comp treatments had little effect. Selective seratonin reuptake inhibitors have been proven to help IBS. Obviously they don't know what causes it but anxiety/stress makes it worse. I developed PTSD and it got much worse after that so my GP prescribed citalopram ADs - they do help a bit but if I could just find the button to turn off the anxiety/thoughts I would be fine .
Right I am away now for a few days to Gretna Green so have a nice weekend all.
