How do you keep your whites, white?

I tried on a gorgeous white skirt in Wallis today. It costs £40.00, I cant justify this if it is going to turn grey after half a dozen washes.
Any top tips for keeping white clothes bright?

I was thinking of starting a thread like this! ds's school summer shirts are grey already!

biological washing powder i think cori , its a pain if any family members are allergic or reactive to it, but i see a diff if i use it on my whites!

cant use bio powder - too mcuh eczema in the family

I've read recently that tumble dryers yellow (scorch?) white clothes,so hang in the sun (and clean pegs and line thoroughly.)

Both Ds and I have sensitive skin, I dont know if we can use biological washing powder.

separate your whites from your coloured - only ever wash whites together - if you don't have enough whites invest in some white towels

I just wash ours on 40 with non-bio and they're still shiny white I could face a doorstep challenge any day

I use one of those glo-white powders as a boost once they look a bit grey.
I could never get a white skirt - ds would have jam or mud all over it before I had the zip up!

I always seperate, too many incidents of all clothes turning pink.
Will try a Glo white powder, on what temp?

wash only plain whites together, I use comfort white, fairy non bio and if you really want whiter than white a scoop of vanish does the trick!

never tumble dry just hang out to dry. Thats just me though because I don't tumble dry anthing apart from pyjamas and ds vests and babygrows i don't even tumble dry my knickers. Got a bit of a phobia i think. hehe

I never tumble dry anything - I think I've used it twice in the past 8 years!
does it turn things yellow then?

i just worry clothes are going to shrink. I do tumble my jeans when they go all baggy! its great for things like that.
