Beds with truckle and bunk beds

I would like to get a bed with a "truckle" underneath it (i.e another rollaway bed)but everywhere I look they are sooooo expensive! Like John Lewis £580....I dont really want to spend that much. Does anyone have one, where did you get it, is it good quality and how much was it?

Also looking for good recommendations for bunk beds for twin boys!

Thanks in advance!

WE got one from Argos, it isn't brilliant but it is only for occasional use.

It was 6 years ago though!

Got my bunks from M&S - they even assembled them for me!

Truckle beds aimed particularly at children can be more expensive - look out for single beds with guest bed underneath (check Argos for what I mean). Much cheaper.

Aspace have lovely furniture for kids. I don't have any but I know friends who do and they are happy with what they have. They have a bed with truckle for £272, I think matresses would be extra though.

The ubiquitous Ikea might have what you need at a more reasonable price.

How about this:

we got an aspace bunkbed with truckle, it's really good but they sent NO instructions! pricey too but the truckle is brillliant, need a good mattress for it though and it's a particular size too of course

That IKEA one is OK. but if you have in-laws/couple staying on it they might not like the fact that the one on the frame side is a bit caged in. We have it and I know my MIL finds it tricky.

We have white bunk beds with a trundle (never heard of truckle before) from Argos, they still sell them now I'm sure, around £250 quid. They come with three mattresses which are pretty soft and not great quality tbh, but the whole set is a bargain.

VietnameseCobbler · 13/07/2009 11:43

our marks ones are fab
makes a huge 6 foot bed

FiveGoMadInDorset · 13/07/2009 11:46

I second Aspace.

lowlandlady · 13/07/2009 12:22

Betty T I th ink the difference between truckle and trundle is one comes out and raises up to make a proper double bed flat across
One just slides out on the floor to make an extra single, I think the truckle is the second one...

lowlandlady · 13/07/2009 12:25

we needed this because ds moved into guest room when dd was born and we have only 3 bedrooms. In laws cope fine with the bunk and truckle, ds on top bunk obviously. only prob with truckle is it has no 'brakes' so to speak and is fairly low and slimmer than a full size single. So for mother in law she has to get in and out slowly to prevent skateboarding type injuries.....
we made an effort to buy the best quality mattresses for both bottom bunk and truckle to increase the comfort for the Ageds.

Eemas82 · 13/07/2009 12:56

Have you tried mothercare? They have a kids bedroom section on their website.

lowlandlady · 13/07/2009 14:11

I know M& S do a trundle that my mate bought for her daughter and it's great but expensive too. We thought the bunk beds would give ds loads of fun plus three beds rather than one double

BettyTurnip · 13/07/2009 20:46

Lowlandlady - the bunk beds we have are described as having a trundle, and it's the type that is stored under the bed and is rolled out and stays on the floor. Who knew that spare beds could cause such confusion?

lowlandlady · 13/07/2009 22:41

I know! Who knew?
It's a minefield! I'm still not sure which is which! won't anyone help us?

bluejeans · 13/07/2009 22:54

I bought the M&S bed with truckle/trundle that also converts to a double bed. It was £360 in their sale, including delivery and assembly...BUT very disappointed with the quality. The mattresses are good but two of the slats have already broken, and others are cracked at the edge where they're nailed on. we only got it in October and it's only had 4st DD in it! Am in the process of taking this up wth M&S. J Lewis do the same bed. It's a pity as it's ideal for sleepovers, as DD's room is quite small

Sorry not much help except that you may want to avoid this one if you come across it.

Me and DH have a cheap Argos bed and all slats fully intact after 8 yrs...expected more of M&S

milkandsugar · 26/09/2010 17:35

We tried Aspace but was hugely disappointed. The finish was poor and the doors were chipped. We ended up having to have them resent 3 times. other pieces missing and a poor customer service to match. We've since been to M&S and was very happy.

jamaisjedors · 26/09/2010 17:42

I ordered a truckle (or is it a trundle) low bed to be made by this company pine bed.

They were lovely and made exactly what we wanted.

nappyaddict · 09/11/2010 13:02

Just bumping this cos although Aspace, John Lewis, Argos, GLTC, Treehouse Baby etc do the storage truckles, I am looking for one with a play table on top. I have seen them before but can't remember where. Can anyone help?
