I am honestly not a sales person for Likeabike but just wanted to put something positive out there for a change! Never really got the point of them until my friend clued me on.Just bought one for ds aged almost 3 - it is a revelation. He has had more fun on it in a week than he has had on his trike in a year. Only took him a couple of days to get the hang of it and now he's zooming about the park perfecting his balance! What I love about it is it is so light (made of beech)that I can hang it off the back of his umbrella buggy so that when he gets tired he can collapse in to the buggy and we can stroll to the nearest coffee shop without me feeling like a pack horse.
Anyone else got one? Love it/loathe it?

The kid-bike email list has been waxing on about it for the last week or 2, too. How much do they cost? Where did you buy yours? There are competing products, too, I think...

is that a bike without pedals? Saw a kid on somethng similar, but couldn't have been made of beech, very plasticky looking.

I think ours was about £90 - we bought it online somewhere as that was cheaper. The thing is, our DS1 really hasn't taken to it. I should push it, I guess.

There are definately metal equivalents that are cheaper, and also fine, a friend has a Puky one (German make) that seems good.

I have a friend who has one - her nearly 3 year old has been using it for at least 6 months - she loves it. Apparently she can go vey fast on it and her mum has trouble keeping up.

They bought it in Germany where they are much cheaper.

if its the bikes with no peddles where u sort of walk then u can get them new on ebay for around £50 thats for the wood ones.

jojo28 · 11/05/2005 08:37

Gawd ours cost alot more - I guess that's what you get for buying in central London! This is the UK site . We got him the forest one because he likes to do alot of off roading!! His has some handle grips which one Mum told me were really useful as in the summer when their hands get a little sweaty they can have trouble gripping just the wood handles. Puky do this one which looks good, but again I do not think it would be as light as the likeabike which for me is it's greatest asset.

Ds loves his - calls it his "flying" bike.

Got it for his 2nd birthday (or might have been the Christams just after) and wasn't interested in it for ages. We would get it out every so often and then last summer, when he was three and a haff, it just clicked. he is now really fast on it and goes zooming down hills, free wheeling (bit of a worry, as it doens't have brakes!).

He is so fast now, that when he uses it to go to nursery, we have to go on our own bike alongside him (him on pavement, one of us on the road). But it is also good for teaching him orad awareness - stopping at each of the junctions, checking whether it is safe to cross etc.

He got a bike for Christmas and although he will go on it, he finds the "flying bike" much easier, so he still insists on using it to go to nursery.

There is a queue of people at nursery waiting for him to complete his transition on to the "real" bike, so that they can borrow the flying bike.

How small is the Likeabike? DD is very small for age, at 3.5 yo she is the height of the average 2.5yo girl. Is she still too small to use something like the Like-A-Bike?

[T'holt -- did we loan you a cycle helmet, we're missing one?!]

My ds is about 88cm just under 3ft he is 2 years and 9 months old. He sits on the lowest seat setting. I have also seen smaller kids use them with ease. Hope that helps .

Does the Like A Bike (or any of the competing products) have brakes on it?

SleepySuzy · 16/09/2005 16:32

Just been having a look at them, the Likeabike does not have brakes, and they aren't cheap are they? I think they are a fantastic idea but wouldn't spend this much on my child on my budget. The cheapest I have found is here

SleepySuzy · 16/09/2005 16:34

Puky bike cheaper though

LIZS · 16/09/2005 16:41

tchibo did a copy a few months back so perhaps worth keeping an eye out.
