I'm completely confused and want to be told what to do! Tell me. Imagine you had a newborn suddenly delivered tomorrow and no buggy in the house. Which one would you buy? Why?

I would go with a lay flat proper pram/carrycot from birth-so:
Mountain Buggy and carrycot or
Bugaboo Cam or
Mamas and Papas swivel wheeled chassis[don't know the name of it] and carrycot

then later either:
Mountain Buggy if you have the room and don't need to put it in and out of cars too much or
Bugaboo cam " or
Good Maclaren like the XT from around 6 months.

KathyBrown · 04/06/2009 20:52

Mamas and Papas MPX and Ultima

MrsBonJovi · 04/06/2009 20:57

Maclaren Techno XLR travel system. Why oh why didnt i take the advice and get this instead of a crap heavy travel system!

Or if i knew i would have the future need for a twin buggy I would get a Phil and Ted.

LittleCheese · 04/06/2009 21:11

Old fashioned Silvercross type pram.

Very comfy, lovelt to push. Good for baby to sleep in during day too.

Good for toddlers too.

SameBoatAsYou · 04/06/2009 21:22

If you need a carseat too then I would probably go for a travel system as that is often the cheapest way to buy a caseat and a pushchair.

If not maclaren Techno XT

Mamas and Papas Skate

I love my P&T. But it depends on whether you are planning any more. We got a travel system with all manner of carry cots and whatnot and then 5 months after ds1 was born I was up the duff again, so once ds2 came along we had to buy another one. Had we known, we'd probably have got the p&t in the first place and saved ourselves 300 quid.

toddlerama · 05/06/2009 11:36

Wish I'd bought something that could become double first (like Phil and Teds) because I have spent a flipping fortune and am giving up far too much space with singles and doubles knocking around. One item would have been fab. Haven't actually tried a phil and teds though, so don't know how good it is in practice! Agree that an umbrella fold that lies flat would be a good idea if you only wanted one. You will end up with an umbrella fold in the end anyway.

Bebecar Icon

Bargain price in link.

£300 for-

Raincover, footmuff, change bag and pushchair which is suitable from birth and has a reversible seat that does not have to be removed from chassis to fold.

PrammyMammy · 05/06/2009 11:37

I bought the Quinny Speedi when ds was born, and i still use it more than any stroller. The carrycot is big enough for them to stay in untill they are 6/7 months and sitting up unaided.
It is easy to fold and smooth to push.
I've had lots of other pushchairs but this one is by far my fave.

RachieW · 05/06/2009 11:47

I have a bebcar I love it. Ds loved being in the pram which can also be used as a carrycot. This was great for staying at my mum's when he was small. For an extra £20 you can also buy a car strap thing so the carrycot can be strapped in the back of the car and the baby can travel in it. Also great for going to my mum's as she lives nearly 200 miles away. Now ds is 7 months he is in the pushchair attachment so he can sit upright, it reclines practically flat as well so he can still sleep when we are out and about. The chassis has great suspension so it is really bouncy, he used to drop off immediately! The car seat can also fit on the chassis.

Phew can you tell I'm a fan? The downside is it is rather large so it can be difficult to get in the car. I've also never attempted going on the bus with it. However I've walked miles with it, it's a pleasure to push.

In total it cost us around £600 which is expensive but not compared to some others. Also I'm planning to use it for other dcs if we are lucky enough to have them so saw it as a long term investment.

Marketing over....anyone from bebecar want to offer me a job?

potatofactory · 05/06/2009 12:31

maclaren Techno XT. £160 Have never needed anything else.

MrsMattie · 05/06/2009 12:33

Maclaren Techno XT if a summer baby, or the M&P Pliko Pramette/3 in 1 for a winter baby (cosier).

naomi83 · 05/06/2009 14:06

Depends on your needs. No one buggy is perfect for everyone. Country girl? Nipper 360 or Mountain Buggy with carry cot. In and out of the car? Loola or Streety travel system. Lots of suburb walking? Bugaboo Cam or Britax Vigour 4+. Live in London/ rely on tube/bus a lot? Maclaren XT or quest+sling. For me I do a lot of walkng but also a lot of steps and my DS1 is very tall so I would get (next time round!) a Baby Jogger city classic or city elite, and a Maclaren Quest for the car.

WolframAlpha · 05/06/2009 14:10

or if you are planning more than one, close-ish together, get a phil and teds.

SOLOisMeredithGrey · 05/06/2009 14:11

No idea! I had to have secondhand ones that were given to me. They were all fine, but old except the last one which was a Hauk. It was very heavy, but I liked it a lot. Exp made me have a Maclaren stroller when Dd was a year old. It's nice, but I don't think a stroller ~ even suitable from birth would be my newborn choice...they don't face mum and I think it's important that they do.

CaptainKarvol · 05/06/2009 14:23

Maclaren Techno. Because it is small, light, folds small and will last for ages.

Poppity · 05/06/2009 14:31

Any one that sat high and faced the pusher, they are my big requirements really.

KingRolo · 05/06/2009 14:38

Bugaboo Bee - forward and rear facing, sits up or lies flat, light and easy to fold, can push and steer with one hand. Have used mine every day for almost 8 months now, walked miles and miles, no problems at all.

TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 05/06/2009 14:42

Cameleon

SesHasFinallyBecomeAMum · 05/06/2009 14:42

We've recently bought a Britax Vigour 4+ for DS (now 4 weeks old). Really pleased with it - car seat easy and pushchair goes flat. Also pretty light which was great after my CS!

hazeyjane · 05/06/2009 14:44

Phil and Teds

Great for when/if number two comes along
Good as single buggy too
The carrycot insert bit is great to carry baby out if asleep.
