Present Ideas for 1 yr old boy who's not interested in toys!

It's my ds's first birthday next week and I have no idea what to get him. He has lots of toys but he is very much the kind of baby who is happy with a spoon to bang against things and a magazine to rip up. I know I don't have to get him anything, but am feelign guilty about how much effort I put into dd's first birthday (pfb ) and I don't want him to not have anything!

A drum? He sounds similar to DS, who enjoys using our biscuit tin as a drum. Toy piano? They are very satisfying to bash, and hard to destroy by eating.

Would it be cruel to replace our sodding fisher price walker with an old style one full of bricks? I'm not sure I can stand much more of that puppy

age 1 he will be outgrowing the treasure basket though
what he needs are collections heuristic play materials that he can DO things with - such as i described earlier
honestly

something to pull/push along; stacking or first sorting toys; inset jigsaws. It doesn't matter if he's not interested now, try them then put them away if not - it's a long time development-wise til Christmas.
ELC catalogue used to be a good source of inspiration, but too long ago for me to know if it still is.

FrannyandZooey · 01/06/2009 20:52

yes little lamb as many as you can get
a really good collection would be something like 5 large tins different sizes (eg coffee tins, biscuit tins)
5 cardboard tubes different lengths and widths
5 shoe boxes
5 mug trees
50 ping pong balls
50 curtain rings / cheap bangles
50 lolly sticks
50 pine cones
50 ribbons or metal chains

it sounds insane and really hard to do, but they get so much from it and once you've assembled the stuff it has years of play value
you get out a few types at a time, not the whole lot, and they just fool about with the
it's great fun

My 1 yr old dgs really loved a Tomy discovery photograph album that can hold pictures of all his family. You can record a message to go with each picture. Sold on Amazon.

something useful like toothbrush and toothpaste and bath sponge toys ?

You can NEVER have enough bath toys. That is a fact.
