Which cot mattress? Too much choice!!! Help!

We're just about to move DS to a cot from his crib. The crib was an odd size and so we only had a choice of 2 mattresses, so we just got the slightly better of the two.

The cot on the other hand is a standard 120 x 60. Went to buy a mattress today and was totally overwhelmed by both the choice and the prices I came away mattress-less and totally confused!

So, what should you look for in a mattress? I really don't have an awful lot of money to spend right now, but I do want something that's comfortable, good for my DS and will last until he moves to a bed.

What would you recommend?

TIA

I bought a M&P foam mattress for £38. It was the only one that was/is available for Dd's cot, so I had no choice, but tbh, it's been great. It has a removable and washable cover and after more than two years is still like new.

Ds1's mattress was on offer with the cot so was the cheapest one and is fine. I don't really like the cheapest options, but he hasn't ever had problems with it.
Ds2's was a bit more expensive but is pretty much the same. Ds1's is foam and ds2's is sprung. Ds1's feels more comfortable, but ds2's looks it
Not much help I know. Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with cheaper mattresses.

Try this website, we got a fully sprung mattress for about £50 which was a lot cheaper than anywhere else we saw. We're really pleased with the mattress, otherwise could have only afforded a foam mattress.
