Maxi Cosi ISOFIX Base

I have a Maxi Cosi isofix base for my DD's rear facing car seat. I want to start looking at forward facing seats and assumed that I would be able to use my existing base but with a new forward facing seat. However, from my admittedly limited research it seems like I would have to buy a new base, along with the new FF seat! Is this right?? Can anyone help make things clearer for me- please... I need time to persuade my DH that he wants to shell out for another base!

Thanks

xx

forward facing car seats are sold as a single joined unit. The base is attached to the seat. You do not need a seperate base. What sort of weight is your dd?

Oh she's only little at the moment- 7 mths but I wanted to know what I would need to save up for. I love my Maxi Cosi so wanted to stick with it.

I can't believe I shelled out all that money for a base I will use for a year or so!

Thanks so much for the info.

Sorry both posts are from me but I changed my nickname for something slightly more catchy in between time! x

that's ok! Have you considered rear facing to four?

Yep, the base they sell with the 0+ maxi-cosi can't be used with the later seats. That's why there are so many on ebay! Was talking to someone who sells carseats about this and how irritating it is that the base can't be used with later stage seats, and she reckoned they made too much money out of people having to buy an entirely new unit.

I know you're not meant to buy carseats used, but I wonder about the base? People are getting decent resale prices for them on ebay, I see them going for around £50-£60 all the time. I've just bought mine new and hope to sell the base on (unless I find out you're not supposed to buy those used either, then I don't think it would be ethical).

No, I hadn't heard of that, thanks for the web address. I was just looking at my options, so will investgate rear facing too!

I would sell our base on, but I think I'll reuse it for the next baby, as and when it turns up! When I have to admit to my DH that I persuaded him to spend loads on it and all for a year's use I can defend myself on the basis it should do 2 kids... (Unless something better is marketed by the time I have another!)

I reckon that the person you were talking to is totally right about it all being a money spinner but I cannot belive that the base is usefuly for about a year only. Grrrrrrr. I just buy into it all because of the safety aspect.

It's funny, I totally agree with you re selling the seats second hand but I see used car seats for sale all the time. I reckon you can def sell your base though without worrying about the morals. I didn't know they sold for such good prices.
