Help me buy a decent frying pan

I have a set of Prestige pans which are great but the deep frying pan is useless for doing anything that needs crisping. For example, if I want to do home made crispy potato circles.

I have just made Rosemary and olive drop scones with goats cheese and realise they need to go in a frying pan. I will use my old pan for today but the time has come to get a decent one.

I could forgo my dress and spend my 20 or so quid I have in paypal if it is an online store.

Help!

TIA.

I have always found Tefal to be really excellent quality. We have had one for about 5 years now & it's still as new, the non stick still works & nice & sturdy IYKWIM?

Your scones sound scrummy

Just about to cook them now...

Stop - I can't control my dribbling!!

Just done one on its own to see and they look amazing.

I have to cook for a living.

I got rather a good one in Tesco Extra. It's a large non-stick enamelled pan. Seems extremely robust, but can't go in dishwasher. Mind you it looks virtually spotless at after cooking with it and takes literally seconds to wash.

That looks really sweet, dittany. Fits in with my wanting to live in a tiny cottage and cook all day!

What is it good for and what is it not so good for please?

I bet they taste amazing too!

Just tried one without the goats cheese on top and they are quite pancakey. Not scones in the usual sense but very nice.

Well, I am starting doing some exercise next week so hopefully will get a bit stronger.

How do you wash it? I am a bit of a dishwasher lover.

I've got a cast iron skillet too and I love it. Makes great pancakes, omlettes, etc, browns meat beautifully and is just a really really nice object to cook with.

As dittany says they are heavy though. You shouldn't put them in the dishwasher (or soak them) as it ruins the seasoning. They are a doddle to clean though. I bought one because I don't want my family having scrapeing of teflon with their dinner.

We got a brilliant Le Creuset one from John Lewis. Sturdy but it's not a cast-iron one, so much lighter to manoeuvre.
Prob not suitable for dishwasher either (we handwash all our pans anyway as we only have a compact dw)
