Ok so my dad knows alot about cars, and so nearly a year ago when I started my driving lessons, I gave him £1000 to keep for me and asked him to find me a car.

Roll on to now and I am putting in for my driving test, my dad still has my money and I still have no car.

He wants a bargain, too good to miss car to come and bite him on the bum, and whilst I do agree, I also don't see whay we can't actually go and look at some.

So, budget = £1000 (could possibly squeeze out another £200 if i really had too). Has to be 5 door and have a good sized boot. There will always normally be at least me and 3 children in it, and alot of the time my mum too. Oh and posibly a dog eventually lol.

Just to give you an idea, I have already ruled out a Fiesta and similar sized cars ie Polo, Golf, Matiz.

So, if you were me, what would you be looking for ??

Old Escort/Hyundai Accent?

NervousNutty · 20/05/2009 20:02

Focus I like but alot have been over my budget, and my dad hates them lol.

I missed out on a fabulous Astra the other week

Not sure what the other one is so will look that up now.

I like all the ones I can't afford

i'm a sucker for a nissan.

the tino might be out of budget

NervousNutty · 20/05/2009 20:29

Just rung him about that Nissan and a Dihatsu Grand MOve which he said is ugly, but I made him look it up and he said it was alright actually lol.

He said if I keep moaning he will just buy anything and park it on my drive whilst I am on holiday.

We have a Zafira which has been fab for us.

NeedaNewName · 20/05/2009 20:33

I love our Scenic - though wouldlike a slightly bigger car now, though only really for when we go camping or other long trips.

NervousNutty · 20/05/2009 20:34

Zafiras are out of my budget unfortunatly.

I am loving the Tino Misdee . Just found a couple for about £1250, so with a bit of bargaining and eating benas on toast for a month i could aford one of those.

peugeot 306, mostly under 1.4 so cheap to tax and insure, massive boot and you can pick up a decent one for just under £1000.

NervousNutty · 20/05/2009 20:36

Ah have spotted a problem with the Tinos, they all seem to be 1.8.

OP posts:
NervousNutty · 20/05/2009 20:37

Thanks Pinkmagic, I have those on my list, just need to actually look at one in the flesh.

Why have you been warned off renault scenics? Just wondering as am in the market for a new car and thought they look nice

LibrasBiscuitsOfFortune · 20/05/2009 20:39

I have a nissan primera, it's an R reg and the ABS light is on and we are not sure whether it's an electrical fault or not but apart from that it's a great car and we bought it 18 months ago for £1300 so by now they must be in your price range.

misdee · 20/05/2009 20:39

my tino was a 1.6

get some insurence quotes on it just in case.

i loved my tino.

am hoping once dh hands the zafira back when his mobility agreement ends to get another tino.

If you can find a used Nissan Prairie grab it with both hands. (And sell it to me!! but you won't want to.)

NervousNutty · 20/05/2009 20:43

Tatty - I started a thread on here asking about them and alot of people posted saying they were absolute rubbish, and to not touch them with a bargepole, old or new ones.

Can't seem to find any 1.6 Tinos Misdee, but will keep looking.

Ah I like the Fiat Stilo, but i think they were too pricey for me.

I also love the Skoda Fabia, but again too pricey.

Thanks Herbie

I have heard good and bad things about Puntos but my brother has a Fiat (secento or something) and his is 10 years old now and has never had any problems.

I think Punto may be too small though.

Perhaps I should sell a child lol.

how old are your kids??what size car seats do you need to fit in??
306's are nice little cars, much more spacious inside than a focus too,
i wouldn go for an escort as they are quite old,you could get a much better car for £1000

Hi there, I might be a fair way away from you in Chester but I am selling my Ford Galaxy for just a donation to our local womans refuge.

It's a 1997 2.3 litre petrol with 11 months MOT and 6 months road tax.

CAT me if you are interested.

QueenFee · 20/05/2009 22:40

I drive an Skoda Octavia and the boot is massive. You can fit 3 seats in the back as long as it is the slightly newer model with 3 3 point seatbelts in the back (2000 on I think) If you got the estate it would be better for the dog too. I love mine.
