Show me a good sandpit!

I'd quite like a big, low down version, so they can get 'in' to it. Then they may leave me alone for five minutes!

ps. We don't have mega bucks either - as some are pretty pricey!

Any of these fit the bill?

3littlefrogs · 20/05/2009 16:31

OMG. I had one they could get into. Never again. Everything, and I mean everything, was full of sand. I got rid of it and bought a sand/water tray on legs. If you are anywhere near north london you are welcome to it - it is a bit the worse for wear, but functional.

PestoMonster · 20/05/2009 16:43

We used to have

this crab one

only it was £40 when we bought it, not the megabucks on that website

It was very good, the lid stayed on even if it was windy and my dds used to sit on the claws.

Do you know what 3littlefrogs, you've just slapped me in the face with reality! What am i thinking?!! I think i'll stick to a table one. Thanks to all for the suggestions.

Awww, your poor kids! What's a bit of sand on the floor compared to fantastic play! We made one out of ply 6' x 4' and even the 10 y-o still plays in it - was in it today even.

Just make sure its not right outside the door, the further they walk the more sand drops off their feet before they come inside.

thisisyesterday · 20/05/2009 21:47

we;'re making one too.
they have the apple one from argos at my parents house which they love. we don't really end up with sand everywhere

feedthegoat · 20/05/2009 21:50

We've just got this and it's plenty big enough to get in. I've done the opposite and replaced the ELC sand and water table as I found when he's stood it's just too tempting to tip sand all over the grass. I prefer the sandpit and just use table for water now.

3littlefrogs · 21/05/2009 08:54

Oh dear - sorry to be a killjoy. But it was in their pockets, in their underwear - in every nook and cranny......

I never minded the sand on the floor - that was easily swept up.

PuppyMonkey · 21/05/2009 09:03

We got one from Costco or somewhere earlier this year. Big mistake. It is such a faff and a mess and every time dd2 (aged two) goes outside now she wails until she can get in. Ruining three or four outfits a day. I'm thinking about removing all the sand and filling with dry pebbles instead actually, as she loves farting about with pebbles at the mo. For some reason.

JodieO · 21/05/2009 09:06

www.step2direct.co.uk/prodpage.asp?productid=415 My parents bought that one for mine and they love it. Dd is 7, ds1 is 5 and ds2 is 2 and all of them play happily for hours in it. Sod the sand, they enjoy it and that's what being a child is all about

Hersetta · 21/05/2009 14:50

We've got the crabb one as well. DD (20 months loves it).

feedthegoat · 21/05/2009 19:41

3littlefrogs - it wasn't cleaning the sand up that bothered me, it was on the grass so I never bothered. It was that he could dispose of a £3 bag of sand every week by flicking it all over garden! I'm not worried abount sand in pants as long as they're not mine

3littlefrogs · 22/05/2009 12:46

Puppymonkey - please be careful about the pebbles and a two year old. I once saw a child choke to death on a pebble, and I've never got over it.

mistlethrush · 22/05/2009 13:15

We've got the frog one from Sleeps.. link - but it cost us £8 at an NCT sale (slightly more reasonable!). Its great because the lid fits quite tightly so that the local cats can't get in - its only blown off once in that really windy weather. And ds likes being able to get in and burry his feet and legs in it in the summer - but its big enough for four friends to all kneel around the edge and play together.
