Does anyone have the Chicco happy Snack Highchair?

DS is 4.5 months but is over 15lbs and holds his head up really well. He hates his bumbo (can't kick it it) so have decided it's time for a highchair. Put him in the IKEA Antilop on Saturday and he loved it, but DH thinks we should go ahead and get his proper highchair. Did anyone put their DCs in the chicco highchair at a similar age or weight? If so, would you recommend we go for it. Thanks in advance

Not sure if you should go for it to be honest. Hes still quite young.

We have the chicco and I just wish i had got a booster seat now as it is so bulky and gets in the way!

Divvy · 18/05/2009 20:49

I have one, its good as it has the plastic block between the legs, so stops them slipping down. It takes alot of floor space though, and is a pig to keep clean.

PussinJimmyChoos · 18/05/2009 20:51

Not sure if put DS in there from such an early age but we do have a happy snack.

Its a great high chair and very comfy for them when young as all padded and folds up quite good for storage.

I would recommend it no problem but bear in mind, it does have a lot of nooks and crannies and so its a pisser to clean when they start dropping food and sqishing things into corners!

onadietcokebreak · 18/05/2009 20:52

Ahh yes Divvy the plastic block and cleaning...its a pain to collapse too til you get the hang of it

My mum bought the above for DS last year. Admittedly, he was already two when he was sat in it, but its a great little chair and when they get bigger, you can remove the height booster bits from the side and the tray and sit them up at the table with the adults - which they love

onadietcokebreak · 18/05/2009 20:57

Thats exactly what i would recommend!

PussinJimmyChoos · 18/05/2009 20:58

Onadiet - obviously you are a woman of supreme good taste then

Divvy · 18/05/2009 20:59

Thing is though, I love the idea of the block between the legs, as I really cant bring myself to strap them in when younger incase they choke and need getting out quickly.

Thanks all. You know, I might just get the antilop. He looked snug as a bug in it on saturday and I just want something to sit him in at table level whilst DH and I eat our dinner. He currently sits in his pushchair and hates being below us - nosy monkey. This Chicco sounds a bugger to clean so think I'll do some further research. Thanks again

yes, it's shite. It was impossible to keep clean. We got rid of it and got the antilop and have been really happy with it.

thenameiskerry · 18/05/2009 21:10

Hi. It's more about whether his lower spine is developed than just about head control. He's a bit young for a proper high chair, although the new Polly is supposedly suitable from birth. I've got a happy snack and would have to say, it's a swine to clean unless you've got a steam cleaner to blast the nooks and crannies!!

PussinJimmyChoos · 18/05/2009 21:11

A high chair that is suitable from birth??? How can you put a new born in a high chair?

thenameiskerry · 18/05/2009 21:14

Sorry. You'd already decided. I'm new and thought the newest message was top of page. DOH!

HarryB · 18/05/2009 21:14

Thenameiskerry. I didn't think about his lower spine, I just thought it was all about head control and not sliding out.

It's apparently the way it reclines but I'm sceptical too.

Divvy · 18/05/2009 21:15

It also has a lay back option, which I have never understood the need to have on a high chair!

Divvy · 18/05/2009 21:17

Kerry we posted that at the same time!

PussinJimmyChoos · 18/05/2009 21:18

Just looked at it on mothercare website...its got good reviews but a bit too fancy for me!

PussinJimmyChoos · 18/05/2009 21:19

Divvy - one of the reviews said the layback function was handy as her little one fell asleep sometimes after lunch...mm..what happened to just taking them out and plonking them in the cot!

thenameiskerry · 18/05/2009 21:19

HarryB Yes chick you need to be careful how long he's sitting upright for (i.e. strapped in that position) before he can do it by himself. It's thought it can cause some back problems later. I suppose that's why pushchairs lie flat from birth. xx

thenameiskerry · 18/05/2009 21:23

If anyone can let me know how to get mine to fall asleep on his own in the daytime, in the highchair, in the cot, on the bleedin' floor!................. I'd be grateful.

Divvy · 18/05/2009 21:23

Like I said dont understand the feature!

Who would want to sleep at the dinner table?

Plus the lay back feature is alot like the way it collapses, and when it is on the last of the 3 positions, it is one step away from collapsing imo!

HarryB · 18/05/2009 21:24

He wouldn't be in his highchair for long - half an hour max. Have doubt in my mind now re antilop but have found another one suitable from 3 months called the Fisher-Price Healthy Care Highchair. Anyone have this?

The Chicco happy Snack Highchair go for around £5 second hand on ebay, if you can find one local to you. That is cheap enough to try it, see if you like it. Or same with any make. Not sure if you do second hand though.

nicolamumof3 · 19/05/2009 07:49

i loved my happy snack and used from around 5mish with both my youngest. yes not the simplest chair to keep clean but i loved the lay back feature as my nosey boys wanted to sit up with us at mealtimes not be on the floor way before they were weaned. i used to take all covers off and they go in machine and same for harness i washed that every day pretty much dead easy to take on/off i would recommend and have another.
