Our ds is just starting to be weaned and needs to go into a highchair as he makes so much mess in his bouncer - but not sure what to get. Any thoughts? I quite like the Tripp-Trapp but am not sure whether or not really need a tray - How useful is it to have a tray? Sorry about all the questions but a highchair the price of the tripp trapp I don't want to make a mistake

Get the Ikea Antilop. It is without doubt the best highchair in the market.

You will get many more people saying the same. A lot of them will have bought very expensive options first.

Personally I found having a tray useful

I LOVE our chicco highchair... We were given t second hand so not sure of price.

We love having tray, wheeling around, being able to tilt it back and move up and down. It has lasted 3 years so far....

tbh I would go for the plain ikea plastic one. I got an all-singing-all-dancing one for dd which was huge and cumbersome and took up a lot of space (and cost about £50). It is now mouldering out in the garage. For ds we got the cheapy ikea one! It takes up haardly any room, is easy to wash down and dismantle to take away with you and you can buy a tray for it. It's great! I like using a tray as it tends to confine the mess.

LadyPink you are spot on!

The tripp trapp has issues with the child pushing against the table and falling backwards.

We have 2 - a cosatto on the move that folds so flat it's great for taking out and about in the boot of the car to friends houses, restaurants, campong etc and then the Ikea Antilop which is just soooooh good! It's a bargain and very very easy to clean. Ds2 sits so well in it and he eats brilliantly well off the tray.

Get an Antilop, and then a Tripp Trapp once he is out of a high chair and just needs a higher chair. You can use the Antilop with or without the tray, and it even goes in the dishwasher if necessary

I agree the Ikea antilop, simplicity at it's best. Easy to clean is one of the most important criteria IME of 4 dc!

Mousey84 · 17/05/2009 21:01

I have a few Antilop (Im a CM) and agree they are fab but you def need to get a better strap than the one included.

naomi83 · 17/05/2009 21:34

fab! portable, with a tray, takes up no storage space! and kids love the toys! (ugly, but you can hide it away when not in use) the ikea one is also fab, but this is easier, i think for taking in the car.

We got a Cosatto Toast highchair, similar to a Tripp Trapp but with a tray, from Kiddicare for £80ish. It's very good and can be used for years as a child's chair. Very pleased with it, very compact, etc.
Although I've used the Ikea one in cafes and I think it's brill, only thing is you have to brave Ikea to get one!

Antillop.

Can hose clean
Can stick in teh shower
Can stick it in the boot along with 2 suitacases, a travel cot a pushchair and all the other crap you take on holiday.

If you hate it you have only lost £14ish.
