SKY TV or BT Vision?

Hi we're new to UK and are trying to decide on what to do for TV. WE initially thought SKY but have had a few issues already so we're thinking of changing. Does anyone have any comments on BT Vision?

Thanks!

It is pants really. The basic thing is just a digital box with a hard drive so you can record onto it, to get anything else you have to pay for the packages, except the packages are pretty much rubbish. I suppose it depends on what you want from your TV as unless you watch a lot or really want specific things the normal stuff that is free to view on digital is plenty so for that the BT thing is ok as the recording thing is great and you can use the various tv replay things on a pay per episode basis and you can download films etc on pay per view but if it is for the greater variety of channels then it is SKY you want.

thanks.

What about "freeview"? What channels can we get that are free to air? I thought that there were only a couple but it appears that there are quite a few.... i'm very confused now!

Sky. BT are fucking crap. I mean really, avoid them if you can at all stay away from them. They will cause you nothing but misery.

I would tell you what they have done to make me feel this way about them, but there are too many stories over the years, of giving them chances only to have my hopes dashed again!

You can get loads free to air. With a digital box (they cost about £15) you get channels 1-5 plus about 40 or so more, all without subscription.

Sky are giving away free sky+ boxes when you subscribe at the mo. We have Sky+ in the main room in the house and a freeview box in the kids playroom and they end up coming to watch sky because it is much much better than freeview to be honest.

ok thanks. We have a sky + box at the moment, but have had nothing but trouble with it since it was installed, we have already had to have the box replaced once and no have recording issues. SKY have been very difficult to deal with which is why we are considering changing.

Perhaps we'll just go for the digital top box......?

I found Sky customer services to be appalling and flounced off to freeview (with a recordable box) when we moved as I just couldn't face having to deal with them again as a result. Considering it is free it is great but, unfortunately, there is no denying that Sky have a better range of (quality) channels and a better service - at a price of course. I am tempted to go back.

I think it basicaly comes down to whether you are on a budget and/or how much tv you actually watch. Freeview is perfectly adequate but Sky is more of an allround entertainment package and works a bit beter for recording etc.

Oh don't say that, I just left virgin as they had shit customer service (or perhaps its just me?!!).

If you are having trouble, write to them and tell them you are considering moving over to cable/bt but would like to give them a chance to rectify it, they might give you some freebies/discount.
