Velcro on toddlers' shoes. WTF?

Shelled out yesterday for sandals for DD, she wore them home and within about three minutes had worked out that the straps around her toes were velcro (all straps are but she hasn't noticed the top ones yet ). Since then she's been walking round with them flapping on her feet. AARGGHH!!!! Why do they do this? Why didn't I realise? Why did I buy them? I know about this, I've heard other people moan about it, why didn't I remember?

I don't mind bare feet at all, she only wears shoes when she's walking outside anyway so I don't care if she takes them off. It's the fact that she's undoing the bottoms so they're still on but she can't walk in them

Why's everyone so crotchety at the moment? The last couple of days anything lighthearted has been met with someone asking if this is the most important thing bothering them. I thought this was the place to have a bit of a mini rant. I know we're all skint and stressed but it's only chat. Have I missed something awful happening here?

I'm not being arsey btw, just wondered why the general mood seems to be a bit pissed off.

just grin and bear it...the novelty will soon wear off possibly

EyeballsisonaDietAgain · 16/05/2009 11:28

I'm sorry to hear that things aren't good, feel free to get annoyed at my rantings . I listen to myself sometimes and think FFS, get a life But I love ranting here because if I rant at home, either no one listens or DH rolls his eyes in a whatever fashion

Sorry but the novelty hasnt worn off with dd. Almost a year shes been doing this, yet i still continue to buy shoes with velcro

TrinityIsLovingHerLittleRhino · 16/05/2009 11:36

I've never had a problem with buying velcro shoes for the kids

I've alwasy thought they were blodd great cause they would put them on and off on their own (one less thing for me to do lol)

ThingOne · 16/05/2009 13:26

I don't understand. What's wrong with velcro on toddlers' shoes?

EyeballsisonaDietAgain · 16/05/2009 13:32

They can undo the fecker Not a problem if your child is old enough to understand the concept of putting on and taking off shoes themselves but a bit of a pain on a determined 16 month old who thinks it's a toy

Do you get the -throwing shoes out the buggy? Thats why i hate them!

EyeballsisonaDietAgain · 16/05/2009 13:48

Not yet but it'll happen in the fullness of time. Once she has realised that there are two velcro straps...

yes thats what i hate £20/30 on shoes and they throw one off and you loose it! that is then more than mildly annoying!!! when my ds2 started doing that he had his shoes taken off in the summer and soon learnt that he couldn't walk anywhere so he learnt the hard way!!

ThingOne · 16/05/2009 14:11

Ah. If mine took their shoes off in the buggy they went barefoot. I've never lost a shoe, though. I thought the advantage of velcro was that they could do it themselves. And have something to keep them occupied in the car.

EyeballsisonaDietAgain · 16/05/2009 14:12

I could always tie toy ties to them I suppose...
