am getting a bike soon and want a seat for DS3 (2.3) to go on it. I had assumed that it would just a usual one that goes behind the saddle but have just seen one that goes in front of the rider - between them and the handle bars IYSWIM

here

has anyone used one of these? They look more child friendly but not sure how comfortable they would be for rider

I have a seat for my daughter but it goes behind me, its really good and reclines if she flls asleep. its a hymax siesta, woiuld defo recommend it.

Tommy, the front seats are more suitable for younger dc. They affect that stability of the bike less than a rear one, but you have to reach round the child to get to the handlebars. if you have a 2+ yo you'd be better off getting a rear-mounted seat. If you're going for lots of long rides, get a recliner, if not, don't bother.

ok - thanks frogs. I had been thinking that I wouldn't need the reclining seat - I'm unlikely to go for long enough rides to make DS3 go to sleep He hardly drops off in the car these days.

I'd get a rear-mounted one, they last until a child is about 5. Hamax or Co=pilot seem to be the going brands -- I had a hamax one which has seen three children over 13 years, and which i have just passed onto someone else via Freecycle!

I'd be slightly wary of getting an Asda cheapy, it's worth going to a proper bike shop and getting them to fit it for you.

yes - I would do - just had never seen this in front thing. I can see how it might be a bit awkward with getting your arms around to the handle bars!
