Friend just had a new baby girl, what gift???

Friend just had a new baby girl last Wednesday and I am going to visit in the next week or so.

She already has most baby stuff as she has a 3YO daughter too, can anyone think of something that not everyone will rush out to buy and that she may not have? Something unusual but fantastic?! LOL.

Thank you for any advice you can give it will be much appreciated.

Make a voucher for you to babysit the children for an hour, and buy her some kind of pampering treatment- reflexology or a massage would be perfect

missylou · 11/05/2009 08:58

I did think of something like that but it would'nt really work as I live about 6 hours away lol.

How about a peronalised gift from Precious Parcels - the 3 Tier Plaque for example. Not sure how fast Natalie can produce them, but if you like them then e-mail (or twitter:PreciousParcels) to ask her current lead time.

If you have a photo of the baby, then you could get an Enhance-Me photo those are quite unusual and turn around time can be a few days (via e-mail). You can then get printed by whichever photo company you like, add a nice frame etc.

More commercially available is the SleepyTot baby Conforter. May be best to ask your friend if they have it already.

I know she is breastfeeding for the first time wonder if there is anything I could get that way it's for mum and baby if you know what I mean as she has a bad back.

I like the sleepytot but she does'nt use dummies would it just be used as a normal comforter then?

I also like the cuski blanket.

What about a tube of lansinoh cream and lansinoh breast pads are they any good?

And a few random bits and pieces for baby.

I love my cuddledry bath towel so much, I have bought it for most newborn babies since!!

They can be bought direct from [www.cuddledry.co.uk] or from most baby stores, i have seen them in mothercare, john lewis etc.

If the £25 price is more than you are willing to pay, how about the book "Raising Girls" by steve biddulph, useful as your friend has 2 girls and the book covers everything from babyhood to terrible teens!

or i personally would really like a voucher for online photoshop like photobox.com or snapfish.co.uk?

naomi83 · 12/05/2009 14:57

Take 2/3 home-made meals for her fridge/ freezer?

Voucher for local spa?

liahgen · 12/05/2009 14:58

voucher for a postnatal Doula for a few hours.

amidaiwish · 12/05/2009 19:58

I just had my 3rd 2wks ago and a friend came around with a little gift for my ds but also some lovely molton brown hand cream for me and it made me feel so special.

NellieTheEllie · 12/05/2009 21:34

how about a keepsake/memory box for the baby? Something to put first outfit, birth cards, photos etc, in.
It is one of those things that I keep meaning to get for my Dd, and never get around to it.

Flibbertyjibbet · 12/05/2009 21:42

Two or three hours of a cleaner's time.

Thats what I got my friend last year and she was so impressed that I've done it for 2 other new mums as well since.

I just get my friend's regular cleaner to make gift voucher things on her computer.

Failing that, something practical like boots vouchers with some flowers, then she can go shopping for baby stuff later on - I loved getting vouchers to choose myself! (not mothercare though....)

LovingtheSilverFox · 12/05/2009 21:43

Have just ordered two steiff teddy bear pendants as christening presents. Obviously not to be worn straight away, but my daughter had one for chirstmas "from" her new twin sisters, and it has been put away until she is older. It is a lovely keepsake, and doesn't take up too much room. I got mine from englishpostbox.com, but there are other sites that sell them.

sammysamsam · 13/05/2009 02:17

a few things which were EXCELLENT and were prezzies for me were: 1. breastfeeding cusion 2. tigex baby bath supprt 3.swaddle blanket by grobag for baby.. simple yet very effective, i couldn't do without em! why not also buy a little sommat for her 3YO too by the way..

sherby · 13/05/2009 05:43

Flibberty, that is SUCH a good idea

Carameli · 13/05/2009 10:30

another idea, freind just gave me a little Marks and Spencers teddy that has 2009 printed on its paw.

nicolamumof3 · 13/05/2009 12:44

definitely cleaning or home help voucher, i would have loved this after the birth of any of mine!

and the handcream, your hands are wrecked by the constant hand washing that comes with a newborn.
