Recording a toddler's voice

Does anyone have any suggestions on a device I could use to record my ds as he is learning to talk? His little voice is so cute and I'd just love to capture it.

I have a digital camera with video facility and a Flip video but as soon as he sees either he insists on seeing the photo or movie of himself - most of the time even before I've been able to take the photo!

I'm wondering about an unobtrusive device that I could leave in the 'on' mode and just see what it captures.

I'm wondering about a digital dictaphone but I'm not sure if you need to hold it quite close to your mouth for it to pick up a good quality sound?

Any advice suggestions gratefully received.

why not just use an old fashioned radio cassette player (if you have one)? as for dictaphone, our one needs to be held quite close to capture clearly, where as the big ol' radio cassette player from many moons ago does the job brilliantly at a distance. do you by any chance have an ipod- as you can get a mic and then transfer all to a pc etc..

Dictaphone
Camcorder with sound on

I've done dd & ds a few times, mainly with the camcorder/mobile phone.

Thanks you guys - I don't have a cassette player aymore unfortunately - i had thought the same - that it would have been easy with one of those.

I'll definitely try the ipod thing though - dh has an iPhone which I guess can take a microphone too.

Have a good weekend.

I have a dictaphone and it works brilliantly from a short distance. I sometimes hide it behind me when DH is singing
I have also recorded DD's first cry, heart beat on first scan, etc.

I have a voice recorder on my mobile phone.

plug in your baby monitor in one room, with the listening end in another room and set up your camera to record, you will pick up the audio. Your Ds won't know he is being recorded.
