If you can afford it and if you have the space a separate washing machine and a proper convection dryer with an external air vent is best.

We have had combined washer/dryers in the past but there really is no comparison with having a separate convector dryer and also a a separate washing machine.

The other problem we found is that a combined washer/dryer means we were restricted to how much we could wash and dry in a day as the machine needs to do both jobs. Most washer/dryers are condensor dryers as well which are not as efficient or quick as a convector dryer.

We estimate that we can now wash and dry 3 x more washing and drying with a separate washing machine and convector dryer in a day than with just one washer/dryer of the same quality

With two DSs that seem to wear 3 sets of clothes per day that is a huge bonus.

agree with evenbetadad - I had a combined once and it was very frustrating waiting for the dryer to finish before you could put the next load on. I suppose it depends on how much washing you do!

Oh I never thought about that [dim] Thanks for your reply

I've had nothing but problems with my washer dryer. Plus, as a family of five (with 2 under 2)I have the problem EvenBetaDad describes.

PheasantPlucker · 09/05/2009 18:25

Er.... nay.

liath · 09/05/2009 18:26

Fine if you're not going to use the dryer option all that much. We have one and it's really handy to be able to tumble stuff now and again.

cocolepew · 09/05/2009 18:29

Ok thanks, my washing machine died a horrible death today and I was saving for a new dryer, so i thought this might be a good option. But I use my dryer loads (uneco )so it won't work.

Thanks again

I agree with Liath (hello!) - we have one but only use it for fluffing things and in emergency situations and for that its brilliant but you wouldn't want to use it all the time

muggglewump · 09/05/2009 18:36

I love mine and it's lasted 8 years so far. I very rarely use the drier though and there are only two of us.

I don't think it would work for you.
