If you're a family of five (or more) and go cycling, how do you transport your bikes? Am struggling to find a carrier that will fit five bikes

That's it really - dd2 is nearly on a bigger bike with gears and we really want to take our bikes around and about but cannot find any carriers that take more than three?

We've just bought a 4 bike carrier - but don't know about 5. Sorry - not very helpful!

We bought it from a local shop but I can find out the make for you.

Two on the roof rack, and three on the back. Poor car can hardly move.

We've been using a 4 carrier and putting dd2's in the boot, but when she goes to a bigger bike, it won't fit without putting one or more seats down (and then we won't be able to fit all the children in )

Hmm, I suspected that would have to be the way Lancelottie. What a pain. Can you get bikes on the roof yourself? I'm just not sure I'm tall/strong enough.

can you get a trailer ?

plug · 07/05/2009 10:08

Don't have anywhere to store a trailer, sadly. But thank you.

Any more info? I'm sure I remember some biking families on here

Oh ruby

We live in the hilliest of hilly places so the more unfit amongst us () struggle somewhat.

It's a real bummer isn't it? Considering the average family size is 2.4 children (or was a while ago), you'd think that someone would have cracked this one.

There's some cyclists about at the moment so thought I'd bump this one last time...

A tow bar mounted rack like this holds 4 bikes - no better than a roof mounted one in terms of number of bikes carried, but lower so easier to load.

Pretty pricey though, and you'd still need to put one bike in the boot. I've never seen a roof mounted rack that holds more than 4 bikes either

Hulababy · 11/05/2009 20:32

Saw a car doing just that on the M1 yesterday. I remember commenting as all you could see was bikes. I counted two on the roof and 3 on the back.

poopscoop · 11/05/2009 20:35

we have a PENDLE itsd brilliant we put 4 on there and one in the boot. but suppose you would have to do on on roof or trailer for the fifth.
