Or do I just need a new camera?

Olympus? I'd try a replacement battery first, if you can.

PortAndLemon · 06/05/2009 22:13

(unless you want an excuse to buy a new camera, in which case yes, deary me, it sounds useless, better buy a new camera right now )

KatyMac · 06/05/2009 22:16

No just ordinary rechargeable batteries

Tho' I do like your second idea

Are you charging them in the camera or in a separate charger? If you fully-charge new high-quality recyclable batteries in a separate charger and they are only lasting for twelve photographs then it is probably time for a new camera (or to get the old one fixed, but that will probably cost more).

senua · 06/05/2009 22:20

Don't you use superstrength batteries in cameras? DH is currently frying some 2700mAh for his camera.

KatyMac · 06/05/2009 22:21

Separately

I used the super ones

I guess it's new camera time

OK - for easy of downloading photos and using them in word

I wonder what I should get

If you want something basic and fairly cheap, my mother bought one of these (at least I think it was one of those -- it was a Kodak from Argos at around that price) while waiting for her being-replaced-by-insurance "proper" digital camera to arrive. I'm not sure she's ever actually used the "proper" one as she got so attached to her "temporary" Kodak.

What sort of pictures do you take?

KatyMac · 06/05/2009 22:27

Observations of childminded children (about10 or so a day)

Printed out daily asap

I think the Kodak would be fine for that. Otherwise I find Fuji cameras have good skintone reproduction, which is handy if you're taking mostly people pictures.

KatyMac · 06/05/2009 22:35

TBH it is the general picture that matters

The quality of the picture is less important

Although I do have to shoot fast sometimes to catch movement

you need proper digital camera rechargeable ones, not just normal rechargable batteries.

i will source, be back soon.

IDidntRaiseAThief · 06/05/2009 22:40

like this

IDidntRaiseAThief · 06/05/2009 22:41

no idea what happened there with the massive gap!!

KatyMac · 06/05/2009 22:43

I'm using 2500 (whatever the units are)

OP posts:
IDidntRaiseAThief · 06/05/2009 23:11

hmm seems like you are using same type as me.

mogs0 · 06/05/2009 23:29

I found the only way to solve the problem was to buy a new camera! Sorry, not very helpful!! When I bought my new one I made sure it had a lithium-ion battery pack and charger and can charge it up and it lasts ages and takes loads of photos. I have always had Olympus cameras and find them really easy to use and take great photos.

KatyMac · 07/05/2009 07:50

Is that going to be very expensive......and am I going to need a spare battery pack?

OP posts:
mogs0 · 07/05/2009 14:30

I think I paid about £100 for mine about 3 years ago and, despite being dropped about half a dozen times , it still works perfectly.

I bought a Technika one for my Aunt from Tesco last year for about £80 and it's brill. There are always offers on in lots of shops so I'd look around.

I also have a Nikon SLR. It's the first time I've used Nikon but it's very easy to use too and takes great photos.

SoupDragon · 07/05/2009 14:41

Rechargeable batteries don't last forever so if they;'re old/have been charged a lot it may just be those that need replacing. They do stop holding the charge eventually.

KatyMac · 07/05/2009 15:39

The batteries are all this years ones - so quite new I guess

I hate buying new stuff - I never understand the technical stuff

sazm · 07/05/2009 16:48

i had the same problem with mine,so i bought a camera with the lithium rechargable battery in it,you just charge it like a mobilephone and it lasts ages,

mine is a kodak

BecauseImWorthIt · 07/05/2009 17:02

When I bought my camera I was advised to buy one with a lithium battery as the charge lasts much longer, whereas ordinary batteries wouldn't last long at all.

I have still been surprised by how quickly the lithium battery gets used, so would guess that a digital camera is charge-hungry.

sazm · 07/05/2009 17:39

ooh mine lasta AGES, i've only charged it twice since xmas, and i do use it often,

KatyMac · 09/05/2009 09:11

Hmm Camera shopping today I think
