Thinking about getting one for ds1's 3rd birthday, I initially thought it was way to advanced for him till I saw him taking shots on our camera at the weekend and think he needs something more robust

Suggestions of which ones are best - it really only needs to be able to take photos and where to get ones at the best price would be welcome!

The quality of them all is apparently not great- but dd has the vtech one and it has been her bestest present ever...she never puts it down, takes it everywhere, never gets bored with it, and there are games on it as well....it has more than paid for itself....(and I got it on a Littlewoods 3x2 thing so even better!)

DD got a Vtech digital camera for her 4th birthday. the photo quality is not brilliant, but she loves it and because it is quite robust she is able to be independent with it and go off and take her own photos. A grown up digital camera would be great, but I think that you would need to keep more of an eye on him with it so it doesn't get broken.

do they have screens on the back like normal digital cameras? or is it only a view finder?

I think I do need a kids tough one as I'd like him to be able to take it off with him rather than me having to flap over him

Another vote for Vtech, DD had it for CHristmas just before her 3rd birthday and uses it a lot. I find the adults enjoy playing with it as well

blametheparents · 06/05/2009 12:33

Yes, the Vtech camera does have a screen on the back.
It is stocked in the ELC and we bought it when we had a 20% voucher for ELC, so it cost £40.

insywinsyspider · 06/05/2009 12:41

blametheparents just done a quick search on ELC site also have 20% birthday voucher so might be best place to get it from if we decide to go for it

Another for the Vtech

OoopsWeDidItAgain · 06/05/2009 12:55

We have bought the VTech one for DD's 3rd birthday at the end of the month so pleased to see it is recommended (sure she will still prefer daddies but it's only a matter of time before she drops it!!) Was very organised and got mine from Argos a few months ago when it was on offer and only paid £35 (feel very smug....sorry)

I would second kazbeth, buy cheapest possible digital camera if child over 4 and chunky handles and buttons are not that imortant anylonger.

Mummyfor3 · 06/05/2009 17:08

This one?

insywinsyspider · 10/05/2009 20:56

it was for ds's 3rd birthday and I have a 17month old and a baby on the way so I think tough and big buttons is best! anyway thank you for your advice, put camera on the christmas list as just won a bike on ebay for ds and figured that would make a better 'summer' present

thanks again
