We have one and bought it when we moved into our house 8 years ago. They are sturdy cookers - ours was moved around huge amounts when we had some building work done and builders arent the most careful of people.

We've got one (gas). It's absolutely fine but a bit of a pig to clean the front of the hob.

This could be because dh is incapable of cooking anything without spattering oil/tomatoes everywhere though. It collects under the edge of a strip of glass that covers the bit where the control knobs are and I can't remove it. Normal people might not have this problem

My mother has had 2 Cannon gas cookers. Both worked perfectly, lasted over twenty years each, and were retired with changes of kitchen rather than anything going wrong.

I have had two Cannons, one a very old one we inherited and I then upgraded to a gas double oven. I thought they were great, no-messing cookers (am a fan of free standing rather than built in). I can easily believe one working for 20 years.

TBH I would change my ridiculous takes-up-half-the kitchen range for another Cannon were it not for the gap it would leave!

WE have a huge 6 burner 2 oven and grill thing and it is fine - does what it is supposed to do - oven man who comes and cleans it says they are the best make to get - and I presume he sees a lot of cookers!

Oooh, I got replies!
Thanks all

I have read reviews that suggest the ovens aren't hot enough?

Yes, we have had one for 8 years and can't fault it. My mum has had hers for almost 40 years and it's still going strong!

I have one and I second the thing about it being a pig to clean,it drives me mad.(it is a gas hob)

smallchange · 06/05/2009 11:32

No, I wouldn't say that. I bake a fair bit and the oven is fine.

Morecrumbleplease · 06/05/2009 12:32

I second that, smallchange.

Me and my Mum have Cannon gas cookers (7-9 yrs old) and are fairly happy with them for cooking and baking, but watch the quality of plastic fittings and handles - both cookers have had broken door handles and replacement clock/timer buttons. Also, once the electronic clock/timer breaks they're unusable.
Hob is a bit fiddly to clean.
But, generally, Cannon are a good make with parts easily available. And they might have sorted out the niggles on later models.

At last, I do believe I've chosen, it's a Cannon for me.

Thank you all

uh-oh, hold yer horses! my mum had a canon for abt 25yrs (the same cooker) and it was FAB- upgraded to a £650 cannon one from comet, and boy, what a mistke! it was the type with a really chucky frame on the hob and raised sides- but any pan bigger than 7" would cause the gas to come out unevenly as if it was straining iykwim(!)it was cos the chucnky frane and the raised sides would restrict/limit the CO2 needed for the flame to burn, so the flame as a result would just huff'n'puff.. had 7engineers from comet come out and say yep, its faulty, but when they'd return back to comet to do a report, they'd say it was fine and to use only upto the maximum pan length of 5" as recommended..er..wot?! since when?!!! it certainly wasnt- anyways, after 6months and 7engineers from comet and no signof exchange refund, i called cannon CS and voila, the first call, and the guy authorised a return back to comet. EXCELLENT service from cannon- the cooker must've been dodgy - but anyway- after all the gobbledegook- what im trying to say is- yep go for cannon- but dont EVER, EVER buy from comet..i have read a lot of shocking stories and experiences from shoppers who have been disappointed with their 3rd rate service..
