Fascinating wellies thread.....

I bet that has all got you looking!

Now, do you buy a size smaller that your DC's feet or what?

Because every single pair I've ever bought has been disastrous because they just slip off and cause no end of near neck breaking tumbles.

So, come on. I know one of you lot has the solution.

Why not just wear extra socks?

SlightlyMadSwineFlu · 03/05/2009 23:17

extra socks in this house.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 03/05/2009 23:17

I used to buy the right size, but add extra socks, as Mrs MH has suggested. Wellies are not known for their cosiness.

How old are your DCs? Only I can't recall mine having the tumble problem.

(See, I joined in! )

Poppity · 03/05/2009 23:19

I have those cute chunky socks from Joules for my lot.

Sycamoretree · 03/05/2009 23:24

Bless ye OldLady.

DS is 20 months. You should have seen him when we had the snow in London. Twas hilarious (well, no, it was DEEPLY DISTRESSING, snarf) watching him attempt to make his way down the garden in his bought-that-morning-in-desperation wellies.

DD is 3.8 and yes, her tumbling days are gone but I remember having similar issues when she was DS's age.

Maybe toddlers just aren't made for wellies, but I'll try the extra socks.

You're welcome, Sycamoretree, I didn't really think you're fumble! At 20 months, tbh, they're so wildly enthusiastic at throwing themselves (literally, sometimes) into everything that the size of their wellies doesn't really matter all that much. But do try the extra socks - I know you'll worry about damaging their delicate feet at that age, but they don't spend all day in them so I don't think that's a problem.

MrsMerryHenry · 03/05/2009 23:33

I've always bought wellies one size up as they get so little use compared with everyday shoes. Have used extra socks with DS since he was about the same age as your DS, Sycamore - no probs. He took a wobbly few minutes to get used to wearing them as they're so different from shoes, but that was it.

GrumpyMoo · 03/05/2009 23:35

Hi! Wellies are so much nicer to talk about than my thread can I come live post here instead?

GrumpyMoo · 03/05/2009 23:36

Unless you have wellies that benefit cheats have to wear? And someone like fumbnle to spout on about it?

jambutty · 03/05/2009 23:37

I looked because I thought you might be talking about grown up wellies. Mine have roses on.
My Dcs don't seem to have that problem either. Perhaps they don't run fast enough.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 03/05/2009 23:41

I think benefits cheats have to wear plain black wellies, as a sign of their shame, Grumpy.

Deffo not red ones.

Apologises to Sycamoretree for hijacking thread and departs

GrumpyMoo · 03/05/2009 23:43

I have always bought the next size up like OldLady and just stuck extra socks on. But found out the other day that mu DS he's 10 and a size 6 (that's big people 6 not small ones) was going around in a size 3 pair! Blimey!

Sycamoretree · 03/05/2009 23:43

I do have something that might fit the bill Grumpy...

Walk this way - no, not on THOSE seats dear, they are for the fully tax-payer non-sponging fully fledged members of society.

Your stool is in the back room, next to the rat trap and the mouldy tea cups.

These wellies comes with ankle alarms. You you dare to step above your station, a siren will sound, and the fumble police will set upon you in a matter of seconds.

They are 50 quid but I know you can afford it because of all your benefit cheating n stuff.

Jam, I'm jealous. I don't even have Wellies. But I dream about silver hunter ones that I saw the other day.

But I don't want to be a knob in hunter wellies. I'd have to walk round with a disclaimer round my neck saying "it's just because they're silver, not because they're hunter, alright?"

Have just picked myself UP from the floor! I have bneeded to laugh for so long! you guys are the best. Sycamore? Can I take 2 pairs of those wellies? I ned to send them to the ex and his DW! He has the GALL to call me a cheat! Unlike him, I have to be able to live with myself (hence giving him back ALL his stuf) ok hijack over.

Hmm about those wellies......?

jambutty · 03/05/2009 23:55

The wellies were 8 quid in Primark and they're lovely. I am blissfully unaware of the "benefit cheat" thread and will remain so

Morning ladies. Well, least I could do after dubious entry to your thread Grumpy.

I had to go to bed as DH threw me the kind of look he throws when I'm still on MN and it's almost the witching hour.

GrumpyMoo · 04/05/2009 08:54

Not dubious at all, sycamore. As I said before, I posted becaue I wanted a diverse and unbiased opinion to my problem. Fortunately I got this, in spades! Bless everyone who's posted ! Made it sooo much easier to be strong. To be decisive and to act quickly beforee he could act on my doubt and guilt and get himself back in here!I owed my kids at least that much.

Righto, wellies...
