Going to be Godparents to our best friends' son in september. He will be 15 months by then.
Any ideas on something a bit unusual to get for him, don't really want to go down the route of silver tankards etc.. for his brother's christening i ended up buying him a bundle of clothes, useful but not very special.

So any ideas????.....

One of DS's godfathers wrote him a letter promising to get him a handmade suit when he grew up, which we thought was a lovely gesture.

I bought my godson silver cufflinks in the shape of his initials (not just engraved with initials) from these people (and some books, as I'm aware the cufflinks probably won't appeal for a while).

The cufflinks are fab but a bit pricey for me even though that makes me sound like a real skin-flint!!

I@ve bought aluminium letters for the last 2 christenings I've been to.

Our DGS got an apple tree. Now it has grown a bit and he is old enough to pick and eat his own apples he thinks it is really special.

No, it doesn't -- they were just at the limit (OK, a bit over) what I could afford. They were nice, though, and I only have the one godson (and was fresh out of ideas). With a bit more time and effort than I managed you might well be able to find someone on a local silversmithing or jewellery course to make you something similar more cheaply, though.

I got my godson one of these chairs which he (and his parents) love.

(This person on etsy is doing them for US$74, for example (although I don't much like their font), so the chances are that you could find someone doing them at around the £50 mark.)

We usually buy something like this
The Woodland Trust I think do a similar thing with tree planting if you would prefer closer to home.

We gave our godson a leather cufflink box with his initials embossed on it. Guess what he'll get for his 21st! We wanted to get something 'keepable' but useful.

a friend bought dd a rose tree which was named dds name. we planted it in the garden and she is 22 months now and waters it with her own watering can and says dds rose. it was a lovely gift.
