Britax baby safe sleeper - anyone got feedback?

I have DDs Maxi Cosi carseat available for my unborn baby (due in 3.5 weeks), but I was toying with buying a new carseat as to be fair the Maxi Cosi has seen better days.

Having a quick look on kiddicare the Britax baby safe sleeper has really caught my eye. I like the ability to have the baby lying flat in the car, the Which? rating is apparently fantastic and it looks quite appealing.

My only concerns are it's quite expensive for a seat that'll only do up until 20kg, plus the kiddicare reviews say it's a heavy carseat which would be less than ideal for me as I have chronic back & pelvis issues.

Have any of you lovely lot got one of these seats? If so, would you recommend it?

TBH i would go for a new maxi cosi, thats what i have and i love mine, rearfacing is supposed to be much safer than lying flat is it not?
and you would have to buy a rearfacing seat when your lo gets to 6 months anyway,
how old is the maxi cosi you have?

sazm It's around 2.5 years old, did my goddaughter then my daughter. It's solid, just not the cleanest and I can't find the headhugger. The Which? crash test result apparently rated the Safe Sleeper highly but because it's such a new product I'm not getting much consumer feedback.

DD is in a Britax First Class just now so the new baby could move into that from the safe sleeper, or else I could put the baby into the First Class now and invest in an Evolva 1-2-3 for DD. Either way I'm going to need a new carseat for one of them!

I don't know if I'm just being a bit of a magpie because the safe sleeper is new and unusual, but I do like the idea of the baby being able to lie flat.

Also I should mention, I have around 4 weeks to go until my due date and we have to drive from Glasgow to London and back in July which is impacting on my thinking.

Hi I'm very taken with the Britax Baby safe. It has been very helpful reading your comments. Where did you all buy from and how does it fix in as it's difficult to see from the pictures? I'm concerned if we order on line it won't fit in our car (Corolla Verso.

I have the Britax Safe Sleeper for 4 week old DD. I love it! She looks so happy and cozy, whereas in the car seat she slumps down and looks a bit squashed up.

The Safe Sleeper fits across two seats in the back of my Ford Fiesta and an average sized adult can easily sit in the other seat. I haven't tried putting the car seat and the Safe Sleeper next to one another, but I know that the base unit for the car seat fits in with the Safe Sleeper there, so I imagine it'd fit.

I didn't buy the newborn insert, I do however use a Babymoov Lovenest that I had already for her moses basket to keep her head steady, it fits fine just above the straps.

However, the Safe Sleeper is a heavy piece of equipment and somewhat awkward to carry about. If they'd put a handle at each end, that would have made it a bit easier, but oh well. I can handle lugging it between the car and house with DD inside at the moment, but I have no physical limitations. I wouldn't want to carry it much further than that!

In my case, I also have the Britax B-Smart frame that the Safe Sleeper can clip onto, making it into a nice sturdy pram for a newborn. If you're not planning to use it on a frame, that kind of limits the use you'll get out of it, I feel.

Hope that helps.

Just belatedly realised how old this thread is. OP probably doesn't care anymore!

Hope the info is useful to you, riddler. I got my Safe Sleeper from Pram Centre Online/Glasgow Pram Shop, but ordered from them in person with a discount at The Baby Show.

I've bought one for my DD to be -I'm due next week so it's all fitted in the car and ready to go. It's easy to fit, not as heavy as I feared (although I don't have much to compare it too) and looks safe and cosy (and cute). It does take up a LOT of room in the back seat so if you need to travel with an older child or an adult in the back a lot I wouldn't recommend it -my 7 year old stepson's booster seat just about squeezes in next to it but I reckon if he were over 10 it'd be a bit of a squash!

I bought mine because we may need to do long journeys quite early on and the lie-down position does seem like it'd be comfy and healthy.

I'll let you know in a couple of weeks if the baby actually likes it!

I realise this thread is old but did anyone have any success with this. I'm due in July so got time to research but we then have a drive to the south of France from Manchester when baby will be 4 weeks old, obviously a traditional car seat is not ideal for such a long journey because they will be slumped.
